Please God! — give me a sign!

Is it OK to ask God for a sign or is that tempting God?

Is it OK to ask God for a sign or is that tempting God?

For me, I must say it is ok. But I also hold in reserve my reason for doing it. Why would I ask God for a sign? For me, should I want something and then ask God to give me a sign, is my weakness or my strength. I feel that I am not sure of my request so I ask for a sign to make it sure in my heart that I am asking a proper thing. For me, my opinion, for me to ask for a sign for something, it better be very important for His moving forward, not mine.

For me, asking for a sign is asking for proof . . . our minds are asking for something tangible before we'll embrace something spiritual.  The only thing that pleases him . .the only thing that is required of us is faith . . .proof and faith are very much apart from one another.

 :cloud9: I can tell you someone He had me dealing with once, had unbeknownst to me, asked Him for the "fleece" sign the night before. The Lord woke me up the next morning, and told me to tell him no sign would be given in Tabernacles; it's a pure faith walk of walking in whatever He says to do. My  :2c:  Blessings....

That's interesting. A man I once knew (at a church I attended a while back) claimed to have many "fleece signs" answered by God (and he also claimed that many went unanswered as well.) Also Hall Worthington had a beautiful vision from God after he prayed to Him one night, asking Him to show him if He was real. He said that God told him that He would do that for anyone who came humbly (but that it usually requires a major life shaking experience or crisis in order for someone to be able to come humbly).

I don't know.  :dontknow: I've asked for signs a couple of times and didn't get any. (And I didn't really feel right asking either.) Maybe it's different for everyone, depending on where they're at?

i believe that when we need to hear from God, He is faithful to answer us. I have struggled at times with specific answers to specific questions/requests, and in doing so I learned a couple of principles. In my opinion, God will always confirm in the "mouth of two or three witnesses". In other words, He will speak through several sources for confirmation. If he gives a sign, it will be confirmed in a couple of ways. I can tell you though that if we want something badly enough (in a personal way, such as a desire for a mate, or a home, or a shiny new car ;o) it is easier to be deceived and harder to hear. In regards to such things I believe it is dangerous to seek a sign. We wear our desires on our sleeve(whether we realize it or not) and the adversary knows them. False signs and tru signs are alluded to in the word all over the place,  so there is no unilateral rule imo. I always watch for confirmation through a friend or family member, my own spirit when in meditation, and of cousre, reflections received when reading the word in the Spirit. If God is not getting through to me via those means...... I am always a little leery of a sign, or even sometimes a dream(altho I have had many dreams and visions from God), because in such cases things can arise out of my own heart.

:cloud9: Not saying He doesn't allow them at different times in our walk, it just depends on the level of maturity of your walk with Him. It's according to the measure of faith He has brought us to. In Tabernacles there are no fleeces given. Abraham  obeyed what He heard (not visible), and looked for something he couldn't see with his natural eyes. It's the perfecting of our faith. Finally I said "I can't do it anymore, I don't care if you show me something, I'll give you every part of me"

As soon as I said that I was taken in a vision which I believe was something akin to the lake of fire as He purified me.  Then after that I was given the revelation of the word eternal implanted into me, (eternal hell), which brought me to UR.

When I said I give myself to you I stepped over a ledge and fell/hovered into His presence.

the thing I was holding onto the most was my daughter, I told Him He could have her if He chose to take her (not that I would really have any say in it)
