In the Creators' language, all words sharing a two letter root share a common action, linking all the words together, even those that are opposite in meaning. The nuances of meaning will be varied, based on the letters put around those two letter roots, but the base meaning is the same, either positive or negative, such as with an atom.

So, regarding evil, I would like to go beyond the American definition given from the usual sources, such as Strong's Concordance, which, while helpful at times, is not helpful when it comes to these nuances of words, nor does it take into account the various stems of a hebrew verb, which can often change the nuance of meaning as well.

I will use the word 'evil' as an example.

Here are just a few of the words sharing the two letter root רע, 'ra'.

רע= evil
רע= shout
רע= associate
רע= thought
יריעה= sheet
מרע= associate
רעב= famished
רעב= famine
רעד= quivering
רעה= shepherd

And here are a couple from Aramaic:
רעע= smash
רעות= decision
מירעה= pasture
רוע= shout

Believe it or not, there is a common action, found in an agricultural setting, that links all of these words together. The letters ר and ע provide the meaning for that common action. Doing this has given me what I believe to be a more accurate understanding of what the scripture speaks of concerning 'evil'.

That common action is what takes place when grass is eating in a field. It is disjointed. That is the negative aspect. The positive aspect is to be jointed. From my translation research, every one of these words carries either the action of something disjointed, or jointed.

Lol Card I would assume that's what he meant.

This is interesting and I was actually looking up evil in the hebrew not that long ago and found it to mean much the same thing - I think the word I would use rather than disjointed would be harmed though. Any type of harm, whether the motive is pure or impure. So for example someone being punched in the face would be considered "evil" in the hebrew. Likewise, chemotherapy would be considered "evil", even though the motive is to cure that person of cancer, because it is causing them harm (or "evil", or "calamity").

Thankfully our Father is using all this evil/harm/calamity like a chemo treatment and not a punch in the face.  :winkgrin:

Yes, but I like to leave a mistake in there just to make sure you read it carefully.  :laughing7:

Of course, any translation is not necessarily going to capture the fullness of the word, but the reason for my choice of the word 'disjoint' and it's opposite 'joint', is based on the agricultural meaning of the word. When grass is grazed, it is disjointed as the sheep or goat eats it. Its opposite, a companion, is one who is jointed to another. To be disjointed is to be, in a less concrete way, harmed, as you shared.

I love the illustration you gave about chemotherapy. It illustrates what I believe to be the truth about 'evil'. The important thing is that the physician performing the chemotherapy is not disjointed, or evil. They are only performing what is disjointed, what is evil, and, as you said, using it for good.

This is my primary reason for bringing this out, as many people interpret evil in such a way as to automatically think that in order for God to do evil, he has to be evil himself, which is so far from truth, so they tend to approach it another way by saying that God 'allows' evil, not directly causing it. Understanding evil apart from the religious and moral underpinnings given to it, I believe gives a more accurate understanding of how God can indeed do 'ra', which he himself even says he does, and yet not be 'ra' himself.

Yes. I see this in the definition of evil as separation, juxtaposed against union, chaos juxtaposed against harmony. Light shines out of darkness.

If all people are connected(zoe, life, vine), then evil is that which does not see the connection(death, chaos, selfishness). Jesus overcame evil with good(let there be LIGHT!) and union ignited like a matrix spreading through out the whole creation, overcoming evil with good, but evil being the means of demonstrating the good, or chaos being the means of demonstrating harmony.

"In all wisdom and insight He made known to us the mystery of His will according to the kind intention which He purposed in Him with a view to an administration suitable to the fulness of time, that is, the summing up(gathering together into one) of all things in Christ, things in heaven and things in earth."

This to me is where grace triumphs so completely, in that we did not choose ourselves to be "a sort of first fruits of His(new) creation". He chose us, to be like a measure of leaven hidden in three measures of meal until the whole is leavened.

Wow, its just so awesome.

I also see it here.

"For it was the Father's good pleasure to make all fulness dwell in Him and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross, through Him I say whether things in earth or in heaven. And altho you were formerly alienated and hostile in mind and evil deeds, yet now He has reconciled you in His fleshly body through death, that He might present you before Himself holy and blameless and beynd reproach"

Light shall shine out of darkness. "Who are you oh man, that boasts"!!! By grace through faith LEST ANY MAN SHOULD BOAST!!!

By this we can present the salvation of all, the restoration of all, with a full assurance of faith.

Woe unto you o man who judges another while doing the same things yourself! Don't you know if you violate the law in one point you have violated the law and you must die for it! :o)

"And even if our gospel is veiled it is veiled to those who are perishing(apollumi, chaos, ruination) in whose case the god of this world has blinded the eyes of the unbelieving that they might not see the light of the gospel f the glory of Christ who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves but Jesus Christ as Lord and ourselves as your servants for Jesus's sake. For God who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness", is the one who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

Everywhere it is life out of death, light out of darkness, union out of chaos, so that God gets all the glory and no flesh can stand in His presence.

I gotta stop. I am getting carried away. I might burst  :banana:

Thank you for this ew. I noticed some uplifting things here (that I find personally uplifting but which others may not agree with) and in http://www.austin-sparks.net/english/books/000966.html (provided by Anna) and would like to share a part (I am not usually one to pay so much attention to a word).

2 Corinthians 4

v4. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

v6. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

From what I see, glory - doxa - is used four times in 2 Corinthians 4, and all occurrences are used as glory (i.e. noun [glory] not adjective [glorious]).

The first two times glory is used, two distinct qualities/attributes emanate from the glory (or they belong to the glory).
These two things are v4. "gospel" and v6. "knowledge".
From both gospel and knowledge is emitted a spiritual splendour described as light.

Divine glory generally refers to a glorious condition of blessedness, splendour, brightness, magnificence, excellence, preeminence, perfection, etc. etc.

v4. "the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ...".
v6. "the light of the knowledge of the glory of God...".

There is as a special, non-earthly, majestic, perfect light of splendour.
That light shines from two different things...
v4. "the gospel of the glory..."
v6. "the knowledge of the glory..."
And the glory itself comes from Christ/God.

Yet a further Divine association is made with this special light.
v4. "...Christ, who is the image of God".
v6. "...God, in the face of Christ".

v4. "the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God".
v6. "the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ".

There is something of special significance to be found in...
v4. the image of God as Christ.
v6. God in the face of Christ.

v4. The glory of the image of God as Christ - has a gospel.
v6. The glory of God in the face of Christ - has knowledge.

And the glory of both give off light.

I believe that it is this "light " which will abound and magnify in the minds (v4) and hearts (v6) of God's children when "the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God" and "the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" are given their rightful place in the teachings of that which is sometimes called Christendom.

I believe that for man at large to be chiefly reconciled, it must be in God's complete Love. And Love must include the expounding of the beautiful characteristics of the Christ of God.

God's purposes are all centered in His Son (early Hebrews). And the light of the knowledge and gospel of His glory are waiting to be given.

Peace in the rest which is service.

"A few drops of blood renew the whole world, and become for all men that which rennet is for milk, uniting and drawing us into one". "Christ is like leaven for the entire mass, and having made that which was damned one with himself, frees the whole from damnation".

Hey Ronan,

I am really interested in your perspective on the ancient meaning in Hebrew. Is it like signs and symbols? I try to connect he Hebrew words which you refer to and the Hebrew text in like  http://qbible.com/hebrew-old-testament/genesis/1.html#1.  with your symbolic description and I cannot see it. What is it that you are using to give you this insight into symbols and Hebrew?

It really sounds interesting. Would like to learn more.

Shalom Joe,

It can be likened to a sign yes, or perhaps a picture, something given by our Creator to not only create words, as Adam did, but also for each word to be self-defined. Using modern Hebrew (which is actually Aramaic script), you will not be able to see most of the pictures at all. Let me see if we can't help you see for yourself how to self define a word.

Give me a word in Hebrew that you would like to define by the pictures, and I will steer you in the direction where you will be able to see the picture in your mind behind the word.

Ok, let's look at grace. The word is (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5638259/ah/na.png)(http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5638259/ah/ho.png).

The first letter (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5638259/ah/ho.png) is a picture of a two tent wall panels.

The second letter (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5638259/ah/na.png) is a picture of a sprouted seed.

Here are my first two questions.

What is the purpose of a tent wall, which they would have lived in? Or for today, think of the walls of a home, what do they do?

What is the purpose of a seed that has sprouted?

We will go from there. I want you do discover this for yourself so bear with me.  :thumbsup:

Seed house. Beautiful.

"Acts 4:32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

Acts 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church(seed house :) daily such as should be saved.

I like the "dis-jointed" because to me, it's all a matter of being "dis jointed" from God who is both Life and Perfection.. so to be dis jointed from God/Life/Perfection is to be imperfect, the opposite of Life, hence the unveiling/truth-revealed when collapse (called apocalypse) occurs, for this is the unavoidable Truth he is teaching - good from evil/life from death and that wander away from Him/Life cannot be done, but would simply end in a self destructive puff of smoke and dust and ashes.. utter collapse/apocalypse.. death, fading..

"If you then being evil.." (imperfect, disjointed from God, "ra") Jesus said (and "Know how to give good gifts to your children..")
