Nowhere in the Bible is there any statement that we must have an experience called "getting saved" before we die to have the mercy of God.  Nothing in the Bible says anything to the effect that "death determines destiny."  These are traditions that control people with fear.  I do believe it makes a difference to commit one's self to the Lord, the sooner the better; but, the Bible never says something like, "God loves you until you die."
