Should we take the Lord's Supper Literally or Spiritually? It was Initiated by our Lord and Savior, as referenced in Mat 26:26-27. Was that just a parable, metaphore , or what?
Like always there are at least 2 views on a subject....
I think He initiated nothing new but just took part of feast that was celebrated long before He was born. Remember His disciples asked Him if/when/where they should prepare a room. That shows they knew the feast.

Yes.
Jesus used the feast as another ancient Jewish wedding custom. All the cups of wine, eating and foot washing are part of an ancient Jewish wedding.
Lots and lots of things in the Bible follow a certain wedding pattern.

Things did happen literally but obviously they point to something much bigger.
For me there is no literally OR spiritually. For me it's AND.

A wedding pattern, yes. Most of what you read in your Bible should be understood in the context of the Great Love Story which is woven through the history, Law, prophecy, and poetry. This Love Story is between Jesus the Christ and all those who make up (or will make up) His Bride.

Literally and spiritually can be confusing because the difference between those two words can mean that "literally=real" and "spiritually=not real"
I prefer External VS Internal
Spiritually to me means "pertaining to spiritual conditions/realities" which to me makes it MORE real than that which does not affect the spiritual reality, because spiritual conditions are internal. The Lord's Supper may be observed externally, but its end is the INTERNAL.
The wine is a symbol of the blood, and drinking the "blood" symbolizes taking Christ's sacrifice into yourself and putting the old carnal mind to death (ie SHARING Christ's sacrifice, his cup). So the INTERNAL reality contains the true power, rather than the EXTERNAL signifier.
