My name is Tracy. I'm new to the board. I came across a very interesting study (though I can't recall who it was now--they might have even recently gone on to their reward) that dealt with the issue of "eternal" in English and the original languages and how the original languages carried no concept of "eternal" as we understand it today. I did some looking around and that is how I found Tentmaker and the forum.

Though I never looked at it much, I had heard in my years that our word hell was used for sheol, hades, gehenna and tartaroo. So that was not new.

I'm already convinced the "eternal" concept is an error, and now working to understand more. I've done some reading at the site and wanted to thank those who contribute to it for their perspective and the source materials they share.

I think you will get used to the format in a short time.

At first, there were a few things here I couldn't get the hang of, but now, I am very comfortable with it.

Many conversations about the difference of words. Interesting to look at definitions.
Oxford gives a little insight to the difference.

Salvation; - deliverance from sin and sin's consequences, and admission to heaven brought about by Christ.

Reconciliation; - make friendly again after an estrangement, make compatible after a quarrel.

I.M.O reconcile is to return to a former position. Salvation is taken to a greater position.
John the Baptist said he was not fit to tie the sandals of Christ, yet he was a great prophet.[John 1;27]
The new position in the resurrection will be greater than Adam and Eve were when they were first created.
Whichever way comprehended, the work of Christ was pretty amazing and complete.

When one replies on a thread, is there a way to reply to a specific individual?
I mean, for me, I see a list of replies from one individual following another but for the one who I'd like to comment to, I don't see a 'reply' button specifically for them, yet still keeping within the thread.

This is the best site in the www, IMHO.

In the ancient world, concepts such as zero, infinity and eternity were slow to develop.  People's thinking was more concrete.  For an example, the ancient Egyptians were content to express eternity as "millions and millions of years."  Too many things crept into the faith via the abstract Greek language and thinking.

Just need to click on the "Insert quote " button which is top right of a post. Then within the brackets  delete any part you do not want. Just need to leave the brackets on the opening and closing of the quote.
