I have a question though..... why is this site named Tentmaker?  What is it in reference to?

I suppose it is because Paul's occupation was tentmaking. [Acts 18:3]

Actually,  I heard Gary talk about why we are called Tentmaker and he gave a different reason than because of Paul's occupation.  But,  I don't remember what he said,  and  it was in the context of a teaching he was doing.   Anyone else  know the answer?

:cloud9: Wonderful story and yes, what you experienced first hand is the gift called "word of knowledge" that's listed in Corinthians. It's where God uses you to give someone a word or message that they could not possibly know were it NOT for God telling them.

This is a NORMAL experience if you are pressing in and in the presence of those who have been baptized into His Spirit and recognize that they are a LIVING BODY, called to manifest, among other things, Christ in His gifts. The Holy Ghost does the works and the gifts are part of the works of the HG.

People that do not understand this will by nature try to dissuade you from the gifts, but hold fast to what you have both read and EXPERIENCED, and if possible try to find others and grow with others who are moving in the gifts of the Spirit like this. It will make a HUGE difference in your walk with Him. He blessed me to both read (and BELIEVE what I read which is vital) and experience what I read right off the bat in my walk, too, and without it I wouldn't be here today.

Anyway, glad you found us and glad He is showing Himself strong and alive for you already! Blessings....

Thank you everyone for the lovely welcomes :)

Cardinal, I am deeply intrigued by the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the spirit and I would LOVE to learn more about them - do you perhaps have some good links you could share with me? (Will it be okay to post links in this topic?) I'm young (23 years old) and unfortunately most people my age aren't very open to what the Spirit can do - the majority of my friends either don't believe the Spirit moves today (Calvinism?) or they find the idea of it "too weird".  I personally want to find out what my gift of the Spirit is, but I have no idea how.  (I guess really I should pray more - I admit that I am slack when it comes to prayer.)

Sorry for that tangent :)

Cardinal

:cloud9: I don't know of any off the top of my head; but I'll try to find you some. I learned via the HS and prayer, what they were and how they manifested. I was 29 when I came to the Lord and my friend recommitted at that time, so we learned about the things of the Spirit together because at first we didn't know anyone else who was moving in it.

There's nothing "weird" about it, it's how the earnest of our inheritance operates thru believers. It's as natural as breathing. Although, I understand people that have never been exposed to others moving in the gifts of the Spirit, or have been erroneously taught they ended with the disciples (as if there was one covenant for them and one for us!), generally just don't "get it".

Not knowing any Christians at first, except my one friend, was a blessing in disguise, because I didn't have anyone to tell me not to believe the Word in Corinthians and Acts and therefore slow down my spiritual growth, thank God. I always tell people, He is just as real as we'll let Him be. You can PM or email me, if you want to discuss it. Blessings....

I'm 23 too. When I was a teenager I was really involved in church and the Ruach (spirit) used me to give people words of knowledge. It was a really exciting amazing time. Unfortunately I backslid. Since returning to Yashua I have not felt same filling and out pouring. A bit of me wonders if I blew it.  :dontknow:

Sorry for going off on one, but it was really just to say there are other 23 year olds out there who are thining about the same things!

Cardinal

:cloud9: Don't worry about blowing it, Natcat...... :girlheart: the gifts of God are without repentance, and you can't separate the gift from the Giver, anyway. What He is within you, has not changed.

As we mature, what He does is focus on a different part of HIS body within you. He compared it to me (when I went thru a similar situation) to how we stretch different parts of us when we ARISE in the morning. He "wakens" different parts in you as He wants to function thru you in WHOLENESS, ie. becoming that which every joint supplies. So that whatever the need is wherever you go, you are mature and experienced by virtue of use, so that He can manifest whatever is needed THRU you. Blessings....

Natcat, it's great to meet you and great to see others my age thinking about the same stuff I do! :)  I have never (so far) been able to function in a gift of the Spirit so I can only imagine how amazing it must have been for you.
