Hoping to learn more about UR here.  I come from a dispensational premil background, but have since seen it's errors.   Was attracted to Covenant Theology, TULIP, scripture interpreting scripture, God's sovereignty, but ran into authoritarianism in the PCA. OPC denominations.

I started looking for a more true to the original autographs Bible translation, and didnt realize its not an easy task.  That search has lead me here.

I had to do a little studying to refresh my mind about Convenant Theology vs. Dispensationalism a couple months ago when I tried christianchat.com because there was a continual debate about it. I was used to thinking about the debate of torture forever in fire for those who die as unbelievers vs. salvation of all mankind and universal reconciliation. I got burned out on the debate about church doctrine and came here for a more edifying discussion. I recommend the Concordant Version for the most accurate translation I've found, but it seems you may disagree with some of the teachings of the publisher from what you've said. http://concordant.org/

I smiled as I read Marie's welcome  (such candor:  I don't know a lot... )  OTOH I know a lot about doctrinal differences, etc., I probably have enough college credits in Church History from a Protestant POV, from a Roman Catholic POV, and from a Secular POV for a Minor in Church History.  There have been huge disappointments especially as I fellowshipped with particular groups... but always I knew and believed with all my heart and mind that I was where God wanted me to be at any particular time of my spiritual journey in this dry wilderness...  I also learned through the mighty work of the Spirit that each group/each POV can be a blessing or a burden... either can make me better or bitter...

I'm not really into theology. I prefer to just study scripture. I think I understand the Convenant Theology vs. Dispensationalism debate, but here's a link for you about the Calvinism, Arminianism, Universalism debate.

Hi B.  Just a quick note.  This may seem a little unusual, but I'm one that thinks Calvinism has the pre-election piece right.  I believe it's scriptural.  I think though they miss the rest of it, i.e., that everyone else is ultimately brought in too.  I see the elect as the ekklesia, saved (given faith to believe in Jesus as Savior, spiritually reborn) in this age, predestined.  I see the rest as destined, to be brought in in the next age as every knee bows and every tongue confesses to the glory of the Father.

Big White Stupid Truck (BWST), my moniker when on the truck forums - I have a hobby of maintaining vehicles and my wife 'helped' me name my current rig.  I love her anyway.   :thumbsup:  Unique enough username to apply to other forums, I hope.

Election is one I have to reconcile with UR.  It is a big one for me in terms of assurance of salvation.  A few key topics to understand better.  The trinity appears to be uncertain - that's suprising to me.  No hell, and translation issues are going to be a part of my study.  Always assumed Satan and demons were literal - still do, but see that it is debated here. 

By the way, is willieh still here?  Havent seen posts newer than 2010 on this board from him.  While I did not agree with everything he said, he got me thinking, as Gary A. does, always pointing back to scripture.

Regarding "election," I believe the chosen or elect are saved for eonian life not due to merit but by the grace of God.

8 For in grace, through faith, are you saved, and this is not out of you; it is God's approach present,
9 not of works, lest anyone should be boasting. (Ephesians 2:8,9)

But all mankind will eventually be saved from death at the consummation of the eons.

10 (for for this are we toiling and being reproached), that we rely on the living God, Who is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers (1 Timothy 4:10)

22 For even as, in Adam, all are dying, thus also, in Christ, shall all be vivified.
23 Yet each in his own class: the Firstfruit, Christ; thereupon those who are Christ's in His presence;
24 thereafter the consummation (1 Corinthians 15:22-24)

And this is all made possible because Christ died not only to save all mankind but to reconcile the whole universe to God.

20 and through Him to reconcile all to Him (making peace through the blood of His cross), through Him, whether those on the earth or those in the heavens (Colossians 1:20)
