Has anyone else here read the Book of Enoch, their seems to be at least some evidence in the scriptures that the apostles had access to it in their time. If you would like to read it here is a link

The following site gives some history on it and some other links

is it possible that even the Book of Enoch teaches no eternal damnation?

http://www.tentmaker.org/books/asw/Chapter9.html

it seems that aeonian life means a period of 500 years in Enoch 10:10

and further:

In the Book of Enoch there is, heos suntelesthê krima tou aionos ton aionon, "until the judgment of the eon of the eons may be accomplished."

Probably why it was never in the cannon.

I don't think so, even if the Book of Enoch teaches no endless hell, there is still more hell in it as in any book in the cannon.

But I think even universalists like Origen had a high opinion about the Book of Enoch

for me it seems the dominant Jewish belief was annihilationism

very very interesting:

QuoteI believe that Enoch was a true prophet of God.  According to Jude 14, Enoch gave what was likely the earliest prophecy of the 2nd Coming.

But he didn't write the books that carry his name.  They were written several thousand years later, about 200 BC, by someone else.  For that reason, plus some theological inconsistencies, they were correctly excluded from the Bible.

A quote from Enoch. Given the timespan between the two persons I would say there must be a written record of that quote.

Jude 1:14-15  And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.

IIRC quite a few scholars agree there is a inspired book of Enoch. Or there was. The versions found now seem to have all kind of errors and other weird things. Like usage of words that didn'y exist in the time of Enoch.
For those interested I have that book and 37 others. Well .pdf versions  :laughing7:
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

That's actually a prophecy of the consummation in 1Corinthians 15:28 rather than the second coming because the second coming is the resurrection of both the righteous and wicked according to Daniel, the Gospel of John, and other passages.  This prophecy from Enoch is about the convincing of the ungodly.  Note the word "convincing."  They're being made alive in Christ:-)

I have it in an old pseudipedigra.......spell.  I like it.
I have been blessed by several of the lost writings.
Several years back.
Just go thru them like I do man's sermons. ha
Jashur is a good book.
All these old writings are on the net.

The way you wrote that it sounds like you found an error in that verse  :wacko2:
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

QuoteJashur is a good book.

you mean the Book of Jasher?

I haven't read it yet, is there anything written concerning future punishment?

I found no error in that verse from Enoch, but just with the usual interpretation of it as though it were the second coming.  It's describing an entirely different Biblical event.  It's talking about the convincing of the ungodly.  It's talking about the saints working with Christ in the restoration of the world.

Below a few verses. Question is that the verses are about the same thing and the same colored words are about the same persons/acts?

1 Corinthians 15:28  And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.

Revelation 14:10  The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Philippians 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Philippians 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Seven, yes, the BOOK of Jasher.  It is mentioned a couple of
times in the Bible.  I had it for years before I read it, but when
I did devoured it in 3 days and it's 300 some odd pages. Future
punishment? Well, it is the book of Genesis...which as I am now
learning is not much different than the book of Revelation.  That
Bible is ONE more story, over and over.  The flesh of man WARS
the Spirit of God and the Spirit of God WARS the flesh.  Guess
who wins? ha

The way I see things is that God has given us an "understanding"
as John says in the last of lst John.  Not many "explanations" really
do that.  But coming from HIM, "understandings" give us all
what we need, when we need, and we are charged to stir not up
his beloved til He please, S of S.

I kind of studied the use of aiôn in the Greek Enoch text, it's quite interested, saved it as a pdf. file, it's not my translation, I just changed it a little to fit the Greek as I thought it to be right

I studied especially Chapter 10 but also the other occurances, I'll post this later

martincisneros

Thank you so much for having posted that!

I'm glad if I can help, do you think my conclusion was right?
