micah7:9

From what I have read about Gen. 6:2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.
In most commentaries and different books, and from what denominations teach, these "sons of God" is assumed, speculated, and interpreted as "angels." I used to think that myself.
The first time the word "angel" is read in the Bible is Gen. 16:7 and the first time "angels" is used is Gen. 19:1;
I got to considering this and reasoned that should I pick up my Bible and read from Genesis 1 to Gen. 6:2 I would never come to the conclusion that "the sons of God" were angels.
So when I was reading a post by bj127 Re: Freewill is a myth and here's proof and he mentions "mini god" I thought it as funny as well, but then Psa. 82:6 popped and I mean popped into my
head and turned to it
Psa 82:6  I--I have said, `Gods ye are , And sons of the Most High--all of you,
Psa 82:7  But as man ye die, and as one of the heads ye fall, (YLT)

Psa 82:6  I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
Psa 82:7  But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. (KJV)

Psa 82:6  I said, Ye are gods, And all of you sons of the Most High.
Psa 82:7  Nevertheless ye shall die like men, And fall like one of the princes.(ASV)
And the popping continued and Gen. 6:2 popped in and what I saw was "Gods ye are,  Ye are gods" " sons of the Most High--all of you, children of the most High." and  " sons of God see,  sons of God see" now that was amazing to me.
Gen 6:2  and sons of God see the daughters of men that they are fair, and they take to themselves women of all whom they have chosen.(YLT)
Gen 6:2  That sons of God see the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.(KJV)
Gen 6:2  that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all that they chose.(ASV)

Now Jesus, Paul, and little John tell us we are the "sons of God." Now being this popping that I received is new, I am looking through a dark glass, but what little
I have been given to see, we the "sons of God" see.... remember the woman in Gen 3:6  And the woman seeth " good, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and to be desired" and " saw the daughters of men that they were fair(H2896 Good)
We the sons of God see things today that are good, pleasant to the eyes, desired and "when sons of God come in unto daughters of men, and they have borne to them--they are the heroes, who, from of old, are the men of name.
I need to stop now, but I sure would like someones thoughts.

Great Topic Micah  :HeartThrob:

I believe you are on the right track with this. Of course I am no scholar, but let's take this a little further and assume that the sons of God were of the linage of Adam.

Now after Cain was banished from the garden of Eden, he went to live in the land of Nod.

Gen 4:15    And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Gen 4:16   And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

It has always intrigued me where these "other" people came from. Surely they must be of the same family of Adam and Eve?

Perhpas not. What if it is these "people" who had the "daughters of men."

Now, it is possible that later on, the "sons of God" associated with the "daughers of men" finding them to be quite attractive and well we know what happened.

This does not fall out of reason. There could have been a liniage of humans that were not God breathed. History today teachs us that there were Neanderthals. Not saying anything but it could be possible that Adam and Eve were the first parents of the "sons of God" because they began the God Breathed linage.

Just thinking out load again

To be clear I believe the words of Jesus Joh 6:63  the spirit it is that is giving life; the flesh doth not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life;

So for me from Gen.1:3 Jesus speaks and from then on the whole Book is Spirit and Life.
There maybe a literal history, but He also said, "..the flesh profits not anything..." so for me, it is not the historical or literal that is to be proved or unproved,  but what the Spirit reveals, that is life. :HeartThrob:

I have met so many that insist that the whole biblical account must be VERBATIM Period!!
If just one single story cannot be proven as historically factual then God is a liar and the Bible a fraud.
When presented with the possibility that the "truth" of the stories might lie in the message the story brings, I am looked upon in horror. "God's Word is Truth, if it isn't true then ......"
Of course the obvious next question is: "What, the story or the message?"
Oh boy, not a good question. But the simple fact is that Jesus said many will search for the truth but few will find it.
Pro 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all your heart; and lean not unto your own understanding.

Man will be of equal value. There will no longer be Jew, Scythian etc..
For all to be equal we all come through the same source of life- Christ.
The whole scenario, however, is only revealed by Christ, to whomsever He pleases, so that we are literally all equal of value.
Col 2;2,3 ' in order that they might know the mystery of God, namely Christ, in Whom are hidden ALL treasure of wisdom and knowledge."
He is the only source of life in the resurrection.
So many will try to find the truth, Just like Esau tried to buy his birthrights.
Up to Him who knows now, and who finds out in the next era.

I have found the book of Adam and Eve...ch 10-22 helpful............

it is all about the good/evil spirit in operation and displayed in Adam's progency........and continues

throughout the scriptures....as admonitions to Israel who marry the daughter of a foreign god..

Israel is my firstborn Son[sons of God]   and to this day we see men of faith consorting with prostitutes

to fulfill the lust of their flesh..Spiritual giant ministries..exhibiting this mixed seed.

He desired to present clearly distinct examples in men of the good spirit of God displayed ...and

the evil..just as in the 50's the good guy wore a white hat..the villian a black..and it was clearly

displyed with distinction..of the good from the evil. But now days that clear line of distinction is

mostly blurred even in our veiwing programming....as the mixing oof good/evil in humanity......

Babylon means mixing by confusion.........a mighty hunter in opposition to God founded the city..thus

Cains feaar that any who should find[hunt him out] slay him.

once the mixing reaches a certain phase..confusion takes place..Elijah did a work to show forth the true God

in the presence of a confused Israel. Truth is hard to discern in the midst of confusion........

Jesus come to reveal the Father and Son..in the midst of blind guides and evil contrast seed ruling

as religiouss leaders..that the people be set free to KNOW GOD IN TRUTH...thus..come out of her my

people[the confusion by mixing] lest ye receive her plagues.

the cloven tongues of fire makes distinction and gives discernment unto the people..think it not

strange that the serpent also has a cloven tongue to try to led you in the way of deception..thus

those that are led oof the Holy spirit of God..of the spirit of truth...and those that are mislead by

the spirit of the liar and murderer

a little leaven ferments the whole lump

I think it is great that you found the book of Adam and Eve. I actually bought the Book of Mary and read it, then again I also have the Bible by Mark Twain, and have the New Testament translated by Thomas Jefferson, now there is a read that will cause a bump on how, at least one of the Founding Fathers thought...just sayin. :dsunny:

Micah, I don't care to go into detail, but some people and Bible teachers have gotten a lot of mileage out of these verses, claiming that the "daughters of men" represented female pre-Adamites.  I studied into that theology, as well as seedline theology, and decided that they lacked sufficient support from the Bible as a whole.
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

YHVH = Behold the Nail, Behold the Hand = Jesus

The Hebrew word for "elohim" which has been translated as "God" in the King James Version can also refer to false gods and human subjectors (Exodus 4:16; 18:11; 20:3; 22:8,9,28). The Hebrew word for "nephilim" translated as "giants" in the King James Version is translated as "the distinguished" in the Concordant Version.

"Now it had occurred when humanity had started to increase on the surface of the ground and daughters had been born to them, the sons of the elohim saw the daughters of the human that they were good-looking. So they took wives for themselves from any whom they chose. Then Yahweh said: My spirit shall not abide in the human for the eon, in that he too is flesh. So his days will continue a hundred twenty years. As for the distinguished, they were on earth in those days and also afterward, when the sons of the elohim were coming to the daughters of the human, and they bore them offspring. They were the masterful ones, who were from the eon, mortals of renown. Yahweh saw that the evil of humanity was multiplying on earth, and every form of the devisings of its heart was surely evil all the day. Yahweh regretted that He had made humanity on earth, and He grieved in His heart. So Yahweh said: I shall wipe out humanity that I have created, off the surface of the ground, from human unto beast, unto the creeper and unto the flyer of the heavens; for I regret that I have made them." Mat 22:30    For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.
Mar 12:25    For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.

Some folks believe that the nephilim were sired by angels (the sons of God).  But don't these verses suggest that angels do not mate?  Mating with humans requires sex organs, but why would God give angels sex organs if they don't marry?  IMO, there is no basis on which to believe that the "sons of God" in Genesis 6.2 were angels or any kind of spirit-human hybrid, nor that the nephilim either.

But were the nephilim neanderthals perhaps?  No basis for that either, but an interesting thought.
And what relationship did the nephilim have with the "mighty men?"

WhiteWings

Not mate or have no need to mate (because of immortality)?
We see angels popping up in several places in the OT. They seem to look human. They also eat and drink but I bet it's not needed for their survival (immortal)

Jude 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

What is strange flesh? Homosexual acts? Marriage with pagans? Sex with angels?

So I'm not sure the verses can be used to prove either side.
We are also told everyone in heaven worships God. Obviously that excludes satan and his angels. Your verses mention "in heaven". The "fallen angels" are not in heaven anymore.

This is one of those topics with to little info to know for sure but to much info to let it pass by.

Good points.  But with so little info, how do we discuss it intelligently?

WhiteWings

Jbert, the chase is better than the catch!

We could discuss what we have and conclude it's not enough. That's learning too. It's a very important lesson. Restrain your fantasy to create doctrines based on nothing.
Other members may have a key verse that unlocks the puzzle.

Personally I studied a lot of topics and got stuck on many of them. But when I studied a topic I often found related and totally unrelated gems. Sometimes those gems (bits of knowledge) didn't look like gems at all. But quite often in a totally unrelated study/thread the gems begun shining. They added to the discussion. Sure I would be happy to fully solve your question but I would be happy to find gems while totally failing.

I have found much and nothing when speaking of heaven, just what do we know about heaven? I've asked this before. Heaven is something lofty, elevated, sky is mentioned [ouranos] [shâmayim  shâmeh].

And as far as I have read messengers or "angels" are a spiritual host and most certainly are in "heaven."(to use that word here) IMO most of our stories are made for our human imaging, so we(I) have not begun to grasp just what we seem to have layed out for acceptance.
Jesus said(I like quoting this because it always brings me back into the corral[so to speak if not the harness of the Lord] Joh 6:63  the spirit it is that is giving life; the flesh doth not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life;
There it is for me, I call it my honing stone.
Eph 6:12  For ours is not a conflict with mere flesh and blood, but with the despotisms, the empires, the forces that control and govern this dark world--the spiritual hosts of evil arrayed against us in the heavenly warfare.
Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
