Just where and when in the Bible can we find the great cures and healings of the physician(s) that today man has such an unaltered faith, that it is a physician(doctor) today who we, as believers in Jesus Christ, became so dependent of their talents? What examples do we have? I have heard all my life God gave us doctors for this health worrk now.
Have we ever considered(I have) that from the time our Savior came on the scene preaching the Kingdom and the people continued in the faith, that the Rabbi heals, we are to keep believing in Him. The Words He Spoke are Life, could it be possible that somewhere along our walk(quite early I would suppose) man began to depend on the physician(whether the person believed in Jesus or not) they were men that had the education, the talents, and there were results, not complete healing but on the road to recovery.

Have we basiclly put Jesus as the answer to our sickness on the side because we see the proof of the physician and transfered our faith to the the idea that God gave this great talent of healing to the physician so we rest in that? Have we left out first love? Just some thoughts. Peace and Love Through Jesus

Paul told Timothy to take some wine for his stomach.  Luke was a physician, although we don't see him in this role in the Bible (I don't think.)

Luk 5:31   And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.

Luk 5:32   I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

My People Perish for their Lack of Understanding."

I think that is true micah. Faith in Jesus to heal takes time to grow, but most people grow up relying on doctors. Perhaps if people grew up seeding faith in Jesus to heal, then there should be far more miracles than what we see today. It just sems to be that we might read a text that says, do greater works, heal the sick, so we go out to attempt, fail, and never try again. So we basically spent a few miutes or hour to develop faith in healing - people spend more time watering and developing their garden.

But I still think doctors do God's work, generally speaking.

I agree with all of the above, save the last line, which is what I reason to be the weak link, and healing becomes just a word that is part of mans ego/self, and in turn gives man the thinking that he is a god.

Isn't that true with just about anything?  Does God use men in his plans?  Are we not called to be his hands and feet?  Are we not called to help the sick?  Some men preach for God, others do so for self.  Some give financial resources because they are called by God to do so, and others do so to get pats on the back by men.  Physicians are no different.  I believe some are called by God to help heal, and others do it for the money and prestige.

If I hadn't had a very personal experience of being called into the medical field, I might doubt myself.  I rarely share my story, but I think it's relevant here...

I had spent most of my life as an underachiever on many levels.  I was held back in the 4th grade, was clearly a hyperactive child with behavioral issues and finished in the middle of my high school class.  When I went to college, my parents wanted me to get a 2 year degree in something that could put food on the table.  I was drawn to the health care field, but went through major after major.  I struggled in college, struggled to find my calling and became very distraught.  I can't remember becoming a physician ever crossing my mind, number one was because I didn't feel smart enough, and two I knew I didn't have the work ethic.  I was driving to work, crying out to God.  I was tore up and pleading with God for direction.  I was a unit secretary at Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.  As I pulled up to the hospital, I was overwhelmed by a warm peace.  I had never experienced anything like it.  I knew what I was supposed to do, instantly.  Questions instantly flooded my mind, then were quieted by God.  I knew he would make a way.

After 2 years of barely breaking a 3.0 in college, my parents laughed when I told them of my calling.  But, I knew that I knew.  After 3 years, God had worked miracles in my grades and made me somewhat competitive for med school.  After two years of trying to get in, I began to doubt what I had heard.  A lack of faith began to creep in.  On my third year of trying, I was in a position where I felt I was done applying if I didn't get in.  So, I go visit one of the medical schools for a tour.  I drove 5 hours for the visit, only to turn around after and start to walk out the door.  Then it was almost like I was grabbed and turned around, and I knew I needed to speak to the admissions director.  I spoke with him, and was granted an interview at a later date.  Out of state admissions to this program were not common place...only 4 in my class.  There was nothing with my grades, scores of letters of recommendation to make me special or stand out.  But, when I interviewed I had a calmness that can only be explained by the power of God working within me.  I had every reason to be nervous, but I wasn't.  It felt like God was right there with me.  I got into that program, and I know for a fact that I was called to heal...through traditional medicine.  I know that I know God uses doctors in part to be his hands of healing.

I am currently family practice trained, but I work in an emergency room.  The stories I could tell you about how God has increased my faith in him, through his power to work in areas of my own intellectual inadequacy could probably fill a book.  But, in my weaknesses God has proven himself strong.  I am blessed to be called to such a wonderful field.

Do people sometimes place too much faith in doctors?  Yes.  Has medicine been used by men to proclaim themselves to be a god?  I'm sure.  Should people seek healing from the Great Physician?  Absolutely.  But, I am convinced that God does use doctors in his plans of healing.

Shawn,

I Agree. I think God uses Doctors for a reason just like everything else. There is a purpose for everything under heaven. :happy3:

I loved this--not because it is about doctors in particular--but because it is a witness to how He works in our lives.  Thank you for the witness.

Not a problem.  I always hesitate to put my story out there.  But, when subjects like these come up, I just have to share.  I am a perfect example of God doing whatever he sets out to do...despite the people involved.

I suppose I didnt word it proper. Doctors help people, they are good people, some are God fearing, some may even pray to God to help them do the healing. My thought was since there is little if anything said about Luke doing any doctoring, like examples for us to pass on. Yet the example of Jesus touching and healing, speaking The Word of healing, these are the examples of word and deed left us to pass on. Still as we have grown in our faith we speak highly of our doctors ablity to fix things and then thank God for the doctor and his talents and skill.
I believe what I am saying is, could it not be that it has been our carnal mind, the love of this life, and fear of dying that leads us to put our faith in man(phsycian) and his "GOD given talents and skills, and that thinking has caught us in the sway, stealing away the very Words of Faith and Life that He Spoke for our example?

I speak no ill of doctors. Peace and Love Through Jesus

Cardinal

:cloud9: He can and will use anyone in any of a billion or so ways.....including doctors. But I also see your point Micah, and agree that we should press in to receive healing from Him personally FIRST, but it may be that that healing comes about thru obedience to see someone.

As with everything with Him, the method is not as important to Him as the motive of the heart in obedience to do it "His way", whatever His way happens to be for the individual, for that moment in time. I've received several clearly "only God could do it" healings, but He's also MADE me go into the hospital before, He would bring healing. Blessings....

I didn't think you were slamming physicians, and understood your points.  I think they are valid.  I think Cardinal sums up how I feel about it.  We should first seek the Great Physician through prayer.  I do think that we have a go to the doctor first mentality in our culture.  I do think though that at times God uses physicians as his instruments of healing.
