Hi there. I had an eating disorder for 5 years, and even though I've recovered, I still vomit  up some of my food involuntarily. My mom says that this can cause cancer, and I've tried everything to stop it but nothing works- it's like I've permanently confused my body. I had a pastor tell me that if my eating disorder killed me, I'd go to  Hell. Will I?

Words can not explain my frustration with church leadership when I here stories like this.  Yours is not an isolated one, unfortunately.  But this is what religion has done to us.  It has taken the liberty and freedom in Christ and it has crippled it's effects on the people because men have taken spiritual life and interpreted it with their natural minds and call it God.

I am also a Pastor and I am telling you that in no way would you go to hell for dying due to this affliction, be it self-afflicted or not, you do not enter hell through works, but through the same as others who enter heaven . .through relationship.  If you have a relationship with the Father through Christ, what the Father sees in you is not your flesh, but the light of his Son.  If you don't have a relationship with the Father, then the Son has not transformed you yet . .in which case, hell may come into play . .if not hell, definitely the lake of fire . .either way, neither are permanent.  But no matter, our focus is not to be on a place where we're not to be, but in the light that has already purged death from us through life and love of the Father.

Hebrews 12
25-27So don't turn a deaf ear to these gracious words. If those who ignored earthly warnings didn't get away with it, what will happen to us if we turn our backs on heavenly warnings? His voice that time shook the earth to its foundations; this time—he's told us this quite plainly—he'll also rock the heavens: "One last shaking, from top to bottom, stem to stern." The phrase "one last shaking" means a thorough housecleaning, getting rid of all the historical and religious junk so that the unshakable essentials stand clear and uncluttered.

28-29Do you see what we've got? An unshakable kingdom! And do you see how thankful we must be? Not only thankful, but brimming with worship, deeply reverent before God. For God is not an indifferent bystander. He's actively cleaning house, torching all that needs to burn, and he won't quit until it's all cleansed. God himself is Fire!

May the Father shake this church from all the garbage that it has collected and called "sent by God" so that the people may once again come into the freedom of knowing that in spite of our bad choices we make, your grace and mercy abound beyond measure.

No, you're not going to Hell, but I sure wish that pastor would go for telling you that!

yeah, he was very judgmental. He also said one drink was bad too and I'm like "Well, I guess Jesus was evil for turning water into wine!"

Any chance that pastor was overweight?  Just curious.

Everything in moderation.

You can't go to Hell (in the traditional sense of the word) because it does not exist.

Even smokers won't be going to Hell, they just smell like the've already been there

No, but a lot of people in the congregation that told me the same thing were.

It's not what we have done in the past that matters, but what we do from here on out.
I have a few thorns in the flesh that keep popping up ocasionally because of my past sins as well.
These are things that we must live with because they are the consequences of sin.
It is hard for someone to understand that if they have not been there.
But remember, "they that are forgiven much love much."

In my opinion, your pastor isn't qualified to give you counsel on this. Find another pastor, if you can.

Heck, even if a place of eternal torment exists, I don't think God would send you to Hell. You're not causing yourself to throw up, it's your body, which obviously needs healing more than your spirit needs fear-mongering.
