Title: "Long Tall Sally"
Post by: Lazarus Short on February 28, 2013, 11:45:23 PM
I thought of this today, but I'm sure the idea has been percolating for some time...

Was Noah tall?  His wife, his sons, his daughters-in-law?  Were their descendants taller than people today, and did their metabolism run a bit cooler, slower?  I remember reading about the discovery of what could have been Noah's post-flood farmstead, and the large stone coffin which might have held the remains of his wife.  In time, their descendants lived shorter lives, got smaller, and if we can judge from other mammals, moved quicker.  Did this situation imprint a pattern of larger, slower-acting elders/leaders on mankind?  I think of pictures from the middle ages depicting larger kings and smaller peasants.  I think pictures from the ancient world did so too, barring the realism of the Greeks and Romans.  Today, in movies/TV, we see an endless procession of leaders/bosses/Godfathers, and most of them are large and/or tall, and usually the underlings scurry while they pose in a powerful stance.  Does this make sense to you all?

People were generally smaller back then with exceptions. Visiting England's castles, one can see authentic suits of armor that had actually been worn. If the man was over 5'6" or 130 lbs - he would have had great difficulty fitting into it. Saul was said to be head and shoulders above the common people and just like a quarterback that is taller has an advantage, a leader of soldiers has the advantage on the battlefield. Leaders were chosen not because they were extremely tall but extremely tall compared to others. Just as boxers have an arm length advantage. All in all men choose those to lead them that can fight or that they"can look up to" rather than "look down on".The Anakim were a race of giants, Goliath of Gath (and his 4 brothers were giants. Medically speaking from the literature I've read, being shorter than average and being taller than average both mean you won't live as long as the medium height person. :Peace2:

...I read 'somewhere" :dontknow:  that the reason the dinosauers were so big

is because the oxygen content in the air was higher back then.

also,I read recently 'somewhere' :dontknow: that as food availability goes down

like on a secluded island...the life on it becomes smaller...........

     I read alot.....

I DO know that KOI fish grow to accommodate whatever size water enclosure there in relative to the number of other fish.
Also that some reptiles such as alligators and crocs slow but never totally stop, growing.

A few years back, near a dam for a nuclear plant in North Carolina, certain catfish that usually only grow to 27-30 inches in length, were growing to the size of a small car(six feet in length and weighing tons). The divers whose jobs it was to inspect the damn refused to go down there because the giant catfish were getting aggressive and were large enough to drag a diver off somewhere if they wanted to. Strange metamorphoses abound upon our planet of poisons and disturbed manipulations of nature.

...that reminds..you guys ever watch 'River Monsters" especially the episode about

the 'gunch" or goonch"  catfish so big from eating burned humans that burned

on funeral pyre along the banks..then rolled into the river.    That was

  some 'creepy" stuff.

EW, heard the same exact story about divers below Bagnell Dam in Missouri [Lake of the Ozarks].

But, really, has anyone else thought about our (not middle ages) far-back ancestors being bigger/taller than us?  I'm thinking you could grow large if you lived for hundreds of years, like Noah or Shem.

I am only 5 feet tall,Laz...I always wanted to be taller!!...but 'wait just a minute"

weren't we talking just yesterday about room enough for everyone?

...actually...I think He will add a cubit to everyone's stature..

how many inches in a cubit?

Cubit is generally elbow to tip of finger(18 inches) and is roughly 2 spans which is the distance between finger and pinkie when your hand is spread out. We also get an approximate inch when measuring tip of the thumb to the first thumb joint. A foot is a foot of course and three feet is a genetic mutation :laughing7:
