Whenever I read the 3rd chapter of Daniel, I can't help but see a correlation between Nebuchadnezzar and God when it comes to the eternal torment punishment doctrine.
The despot king saying worship me or into the furnace of fire you go.
God in ET doctrine saying worship me or into the furnace of fire you go.
And then the fourth man looking like the Son of God shielding Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego from harm while in the furnace.

I can imagine someone asking God about sending people to hell according to the ET doctrine, and Him replying "Who do you think I am Nebuchadnezzar?"

Do you think this chapter is prophetically addressing the pagan hell doctrine that was to come?

I think it speaks of the second death.

Notice that these three men were cast into the fire BOUND and yet were seen walking LOOSED (with one like unto the Son of God)? That upon their bodies "the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them"?

How does all of that compare to the second death (being cast into the lake of fire) which has "no power" over those found in Christ?
