Vaccine, not such a weird thought. Sin can be seen as an infection I think. If left untreated it affects the whole body.
That's why the sinning/infected hand has be cut off. Why the speck of leaven 'infects' the whole lump.

Not a second longer because the refiner doesn't want to damage the goods and has to move on to next job. So even if hell is literal fire (not!) then it's limited in duration. People focus a lot on debates about eternal vs age, but all the other things like the ones mentioned above seem to get far less attention.




BTW the lake is also called Brazen sea with is a wrong translation without a doubt.

Seems to me the lake of fire is closer to pond of fire than sea of fire.. If the masses of humanity are going there 'forever' why is it not a huge "sea of fire" - especially as humanity is likened to a sea - instead of merely a lake large or small, or pond..

I've thought of that too, as the shield of faith, it being His Spirit surrounding us (like a 'force field', a science fiction shield :gsmile: shield of faith/trust, hold it high! firm..)

It has been floated that in the new earth verses there is the earth and the 3rd heaven and that is it so the lake of fire would be the walls of New Jerusalem. I'm definitely on the fence but I can see how seeing men take their place as servants of God would be eternal torment for them.

Other than that it is a reflection of this earth in it's sinful state where it is like Job's life only no children and everything goes wrong and not one things goes right. Murphy's law on steroids and the only verdict always results in more pain. The men that go to hell are on the beach of the lake as that is how close they get to becoming part of it.

Being part of the wall actually allows a way for them to be forgiven  as something has to happen when mankind and all the other flesh have filled up all the inhabitable part of the new earth. God corrects sinners rather than uncreating them

I like these verses about judgment day, and a brother said stand there and you're standing in the lake of fire:
