One of my favorite more obscure passages revealing UR is Psalm 149, verses 5-9:

5
Let the saints be joyful in glory;
Let them sing aloud on their beds.

6
Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
And a two-edged sword in their hand,

7
To execute vengeance on the nations,
And punishments on the peoples;

8
To bind their kings with chains,
And their nobles with fetters of iron;

9
To execute on them the written judgment—
This honor have all His saints.

This is a fascinating Psalm to me, as it concerns 'the written judgment' which the saints are given to execute, yet is a Psalm full of joy and exultation. Here we have the saints joyful, because they get to execute vengeance and punishment with the two edged sword (Word of God) that we see coming out of the mouth of Christ in Revelation. So this establishes that everything about judgment, punishment, vengeance, and such things, is all accomplished by the Word of God! What is more, this is a great honor that is given to the saints, and high praises come from their mouths as they sing aloud. Surely a picture of righteous, merciful judgment!

I fail to see any way this can squeeze into an ET box. Maybe the saints are just sadistic, and are so happy to be casting the wicked into hell so that they can enjoy the spectacle of some teeth gnashing?

Joking aside, this is yet another wonderful confirmation that God's judgments are a cause for ultimate joy, and that when the saints see what 'judging the world' really means and entails, it will be an incredibly awesome revelation.

It reminds us that all of God's judgements are meant for remedial purposes

Definitely! People get lost in the metaphor like a 'sword' or a 'fire', and miss the reality it points towards.

Yes! The true warfare of the Word of God is wondrous to behold!

I find it interesting that double edged sword makes an appearance in Judges 3, when Ehud slays Eglon. To me, Eglon is a type of the flesh, being a very fat man, so his death by the double edged sword is a picture of the circumcision of the heart, I believe.

  and 'son of my right hand' is left-handed[generally] do not let your'e right hand know what your'e left hand is

  Thanks Shev

    Psalms 149     :thumbsup:    reminded me of  John 20,    How we are also breathed  Life  upon  us  from the presence of the Lord , it sure does change you    and not to abuse the Liberty in Christ but to    rightly divide      the Word of truth ,     as they would know     Like Jesus did  in  what to say and to whom  and when to say nothing  !  He spoke  to the disciples/  students    in ways that were    different  than   the   strong warnings to the Pharisees  , He could have  breathed on them    as well but they were retained  , it seems , held accountable  maybe
21So Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

22And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.

23"If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have been retained."retain

RETA'IN, v.t. L. retineo; re and teneo, to hold.

Whom I would have retained with me. Phil. 13.

3. To keep back; to hold.

4. To hold from escape. Some substances retain heat much longer than others. Metals readily receive and transmit heat, but do not long retain it. Seek cloths that retain their color.

5. To keep in pay; to hire.

A Benedictine convent has now retained the most learned father of their order to write in its defense.

6. To engage; to employ by a fee paid; as, to retain a counselor.

1. To belong to; to depend on; as coldness mixed with a somewhat languid relish retaining to bitterness.

Not in use. We now use pertain.
