Matt:12 But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The children of the kingdom?
What is outer darkness?
Weeping and gnashing of teeth?

Sorry to bother you guys with so many questions, it's just that I am having to relearn just about everything. Get emptied out so to speak

wellJock,I will give you a bit of my perspective onthis..as I amsureothers here will contribute

also.  Israelwas incovenant with God to be apeculiar unique nation/kingdom unto God

becozf this 'special' relaationship..the promiseswere untothem[a son to sit on David's throne

forever]....Due to disobedience/idolatry etc..they had been disciplined before...andeventhen

  Rome was ruling over them.

Repentance and accepting their Messiahwould have resultedin their 'rest'in God..but

they refused...and Jerusalem was destroyed andthey did not exist 'nationally" for

2 millenia..

many will come from the east andwest andsit downwith Abraham[faith] andeat...refers to

since Israel rejected God through His son...the neighboring nations through faith

would sit down at table inthe Kingdom of Heaven/covenant.

the parable Jesus told about the manthat held a bigbanquet andhad previously invited

others first..who beggedoff for various 'excuses' would not eat of His banquet...and sent

his servants to go outandinvite any who would come..to it......to me represents..Israel

the nationin Covenant with God  missing out on the fulfilling ofthat Covenant in Christ

and  the bringing in of a better covenant/eternal.

thus...those that rejected Jesus..lost what they thought they had[nationalIsrael] and

lost out  on the even better covenant/spiritual Israel.

my :2c:   All ofIsraaelwho did receive Him..were brought into the better spiritual/kingdom of

Heaaven covenant....and the lesser covenant law/national was abolished......

  flesh/spirit..natural/spiritual

"The kingdom of the heavens," used exclusively in Matthew's account, refers to the coming kingdom in Israel ruled by Christ when he returns. See the attachment.

"10 Now, hearing it, Jesus marvels. And He said to those following, "Verily, I am saying to you, With no one in Israel so much faith did I find.
11 Now I am saying to you that many from the east and the west shall be arriving and reclining with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens,
12 yet the sons of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness. There shall be lamentation and gnashing of teeth."" (Matthew 8:10-12)

"10 Like the centurion's servant, the nations who believed, when the evangel went forth after His resurrection, as recorded in Acts, had no personal contact with Him, and never knew His presence. They are saved at a distance, by a faith unequaled in Israel. So, also there will be many in the future who will find a place in the kingdom, while many even of the priests will be left out.
The paralytic who was healed is appropriately delineated. He has no strength and needs none. He does nothing. All his salvation is outside his own efforts. It was, of necessity, not of works. It was all of God. Such was the salvation of the nations. In contrast with this the leper called on Him and entreated for the blessing, He came to Him and worshiped Him. Such was the case with the Jewish disciples." (Concordant Commentary on the New Testament page 20)
