  "FAMILY SALVATION"


  Family Salvation
  Just one call away
  For the nominal price (pledge)
  Just a dollar a day

  What more could you ask?
  Want all your bills paid?
  Just a pledge of $1000
  Freedom's on it's way!

  If it's healing -- you want
  The Lord won't delay
  But like all good physicians
  Up front you must pay

  Does this sound like I'm selling
  Salvation today?
  Adding just a bit -- to the price
  That was paid?

  Sure sounds like a con game
  And the target is you
  It's your money they're after
  So be wise - not a fool

  Believe -- the Gospel
  The Good News -- is -- It's Free
  All the promises are wrapped up
  In Jesus you see

  There's position and power
  There's fortune and fame
  By the selling of Jesus
  There's alot to be gained

  But if Judas could speak
  I'd bet he'd agree
  That the selling of Jesus
  Will not make you free

  The selling of Jesus
  As seen on T.V.
  Can be labeled correctly
  As Blasphemy

A TRUE STORY:  How the above poem came about will surprise you!

Many years ago my wife and I were watching a Christian TV Telethon. They had several speakers and I must admit I was gullible. I was also very concerned about finances and other family issues. Now this was a telethon to raise money and each speaker seemed to try to persuade you to call in and make a pledge. One a the speakers was talking how God would bless you and gave some examples of how after giving people in the past  received financial miracles. Some got money from unexpected sources and got out of debt and others received healing as they gave to the Lord. I don't remember the exact message but the above was kind of the just of the message. He was asking folks to make a pledge of just about a dollar a day - $30 a month.

So far so good and my wife and I decided to call and pledge $30 a month. Then it was time for another speaker to take his turn on the telethon extolling the virtues of giving. Now I told you earlier I was kind of gullible so now comes the funny and sad part of the story. This speaker was really hyping things up and the phones were busy as they constantly were giving reports on all the pledges coming in. This speaker was speaking of all the previous speakers blessings received by folks that made and kept pledges etc. He was pushing for people to make a $40 a month pledge. It sounded like an even better reason to give because he was speaking not only the above mentioned blessings but that of whole familys getting "Saved" because of their faithful giving. Concerned about our children as well as other relatives it sounded like an even better "Deal". What did we do? Well we called up again and had them change our $30 a month pledge to a $40 a month pledge.

It was just moments after calling and having that pledge changed that we both busted out laughing realizing we had just been religiously conned. It was then that the Holy Spirit dropped this poem in my heart. I'm not against giving by any means but hyping God's blessings and trying to imply they are to be gained by giving pledges to any ministry is blasphemous.

If you see a TV ministry that you believe is worthy to be supported with your money support it if you wish. If you watch a telethon and it seems they are hyping up their stories like promoters on a shopping channel push their products -- pause and pray -- don't let the hype cause you to react.

I was reminded of a comment I came across a while back, how when Jesus said "many will come in my name saying "I am Christ" (and that has been fulfilled a little) this person said maybe it should read - "many will come in my name, saying that I (Jesus) am Christ" (fulfilled a lot). It just has stuck with me..

an Interlinear word for word translation "Many will come in the name of Me, saying I am the Christ, and many they will mislead." (Mt.24:5)

Nicely done He1MyHeart ... I enjoyed your poem and the concluding statement concerning Judas. When he beholds the pure eyes of love from our Great Savior he shall know that God IS Love. Also, the story was one I have heard before and participated in when I first heard the Gospel. My money is now directed differently.
