Matthew 5:14
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

23And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.

John 6:
19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship:
     and they were afraid.
20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.
21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

Nathan

Ever wonder what a "ship" represents in us spiritually?

15 And as they that bare the ark were come unto Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bare the ark were dipped in the brim of the water, (for Jordan overfloweth all his banks all the time of harvest,)

16 That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho.

For me, a ship is my belief system.  It's what carries me through rough times as well as good times.  It's what I rely on when things get to deep for me.  Ships now are pretty much totally self-reliant.  They don't worry much about wind direction because their rudder has been updated with a propellor and it will take them where ever "they" desire to go.

But originally, the wind played a huge role in a ships direction.  The two most valuable things that moved the ship were water currents and wind currents.  We talk a lot about getting into the river or feeling the blowing of the wind in spiritual terms because these two facets are what "moves" us inwardly.

Funny thing with that Peter experience was, nobody but Peter was willing to get out of the boat.  Peter was the only one foolish enough to think that if Jesus was doing it, then he could do it as well.  Jesus didn't come to inflate his own ego  in doing miraculous things, he was living an example to show us that in him, we could do the very things he was doing.  In fact, he stated that we'd be able to do even greater things.

But we have to leave our belief system, our comfort zones, the things we think we "know".  Knowledge says, you step out on the water, you'll sink and possibly drown, so common sense keeps us from letting go.  But Peter's experience with Jesus ignored all that natural reasoning and logic.  All he needed was to hear the sound.  And that was enough for him.

Matthew 14
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"  31Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"  32And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God."  34When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret. 35And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.

I'd never noticed before, but what caused Peter to fall was the fact that he was afraid of the wind.  Wind represents spirit right?  Peter wasn't afraid of being swallowed up by the waves, which represents humanity . .but he was afraid of the wind.  "That's" why Jesus stated he had little faith, he was afraid of the very power that was sustaining him.

Then Jesus entered "in" the boat.  The belief system now has Jesus at it's helm and as soon as he enters, peace comes to the sea.  The belief system went from one of fear of death to one of worshiping the Christ.  It was changed.  It was renewed, it was transformed.

Then lastly, the part about all people being healed.  Ever wonder why we don't see everyone getting healed around us now?  In this particular passage, the one thing that kind of jumps out at me is the fact that "they" touched "him" and not the other way around.  Do we want to see those kinds of results in our lives?  How many people do we have around us who "want" to touch Jesus?  Most people I know are cynics when it comes to Jesus . . .I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the church's boat has gone adrift because noone is willing to get out of it so Jesus can then bring them back into it.

Wow, thank you for that Nathan...
I had never seen this passage like that!

Hmmn...

The preacher makes a good deal of sense, but I am more than somewhat concerned about the idea that Christ will, or is in essence "a vapour philosophy", rather than a being who will literally make an appearance of conquering-glory in due time to at long last make eternity Reality here, and forever, taking what is planted now, and making it glorious.

To put it another way: "I'd rather my mansion in the New Jerusalem be a mansion, and not just a state of mind on this sin riddled earth."

But perhaps I do not yet fully understand what he is saying...I have a bit of a headache at the moment anyway.

Nathan

Christ being a state of mind?  Not hardly, it's because the of realness of his presence "in" me that transforms the mind.  "I'm" the one in a different state of mind because of the reality of who he is.  He is not, as you say, a vapor philosophy.  Actually, I think logically thinking minds assume that we are who we are in this realm because of a doctrine or philosophy and I used to live according to one.

But when Jesus makes his appearance "in" us, it pretty much throws all philosophies out the doors . .for two reasons.  One is . .because a philosophy doesn't come from one's heart as much as it does from one's mind.  And because it's from a mind, that in and of itself is at enmity against God, you can't rely on it's conclusions.  When dealing with spiritual principles, my mind 'SHOULD' disengage it's role of 'operation', which is it's purpose in the natural realm, and merely go to "observation" when it comes to spiritual principles and let my inner spirit become the operator, thus the passage and call to all of us to "walk in the spirit".

the second reason why philosophy is no longer relevant is due to the fact "because" it's the result of a thinking mind, it can't grasp the fulness of God's purpose or direction.  Either way, if I don't have an "emergency ammendment" in place, all philosophy is in vain.  And by "emergency ammendment", all that means is that I reserve the ability to allow the Spirit change my perception as I continue to grow and mature in my relationship with the Father.  As my relationship matures, my philosophy should reflect that growth and it should expand and contract as well.  But most philosophies and doctrines don't do that at all.  Most are to "preserve" the current state and in doing so, we miss the experience of what 'finished state' living is all about.

And I "do" beleive Christ is coming in the flesh . . .I believe he's among us in the flesh as we speak.  I just don't beleive he's coming in the confinement of one individual body of flesh.  We are his body now.  We are his flesh.  And there is no intimidation or leverage he needs to scare us into his kingdom.  He calls to us in love, not through fear tactics.  Those are only used by men who claim the power of God is on them, but all they have is emotional tactics.

But Christ is definitely real.  He's not invisible to those who know his voice.  That's what John was showing in Revelation when he "heard" the voice BEHIND him.  And in order to "see" the voice, he had to repent, he had to turn around because he (the church) was facing the wrong direction through which revelation (unveilings) could manifest in him.  Unless we turn, we can not see.  If we can't see, then how can we know what has already been fulfilled?  Salvation has never been about being saved from hell, it's about being enabled to "see" spiritual truth so that we can apply and release it here on earth so that others who are still facing the wrong direction can  be healed.

Lefein

Our resurrection is to model after his own however.  It is that, that concerns me.

If his resurrection was one that later devoided him of a unique, individual existence in the sense that he is also his own person, as well as a part of the community...Then ours would follow suit.

The thing is, I don't want the Blessed Hope to be some Judaic form of "Nirvana", en-vesseled by an abstractual "heavenly hive mind".

It does not make sense to me, that Christ would abandon his own resurrected garment, to manifest himself only in what is...quite frankly, still sinful flesh - Belonging to his yet to be glorified assembly.

I am looking forward to a beautified existence, that is Real.  Not a beautification that is abstract.

Likewise, I am looking forward to having my own, individual, unique, resurrected, glorified, beautified body - through which God will also manifest his excellence.  A real body, not abstract.  My own body, not a heavenly, abstract concept of the Borg-Cube.

The idea that the kingdom of God is (however real it may be), nothing more than application of spiritual pie in the sky here on earth, without an actual restored, glorified Creation ahead in which to meta-physically and spiritually live in...is bothersome.

That is why I am displeased by the notion that The Body of Christ - his appearance is the Assembly, rather than his actual, physical singularity with his saints trailing behind.

I want this earth to die, so that I can live in the new, and better one.

God is multi-faceted, and I am sure that there is indeed The Spirit of Truth that is applied to the situation of the Church and Christ, facing him, repenting, etc.

But it would be a bit of a disappointment if that is all it was.  And Christ really wasn't coming to destroy the marred world we live in, to replace it with a real, glorified one, that isn't a Judaic form of Nirvana.

It is to my understanding, that this world is dying, and will soon be dead.  Healing isn't its destiny, resurrection is.

It's both.

It's both.

It's our senses covered and clothed in Christ.

That's how I see it too, it is spiritual in this aion and glorified(heaven and earth reunited) in the next.
How that will happen is the kind of knowledge that is seen through a glass darkly.
