Proverbs 29:1 An EU Response

Proverbs 29:1-A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy.

Does that mean once a man hardens his neck there is no hope either in this life or the next? How does the Universalist see this passage?

Dear James: Our Father sets  the parameters for us. 70x7. Stubborn in all forms leads to chastening that leads to correction by our Father.

Our Abba declares nothing separates us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Nothing!

Not life, not death, no power, not tribulation, not distress, not things to come, no creature.

Nothing!

The Lexham English Septuagint has;
Better a man who reproves than a stiff-necked man, for when he is suddenly burned there is no healing. 2 When the righteous are praised, the people will rejoice; but when the ungodly rule, the peoples groan. 3 When a man loves wisdom, his father rejoices; but the one who tends prostitutes will destroy wealth. 4 A righteous king establishes territory, but a lawless man destroys it.

I think this is expressing the death that is in Adam, vs the life that is in Christ. The very next verse gives the example of government, and the pattern continues. So I think it is saying, under the rule of the Spirit, you are corrected, which brings life. But under the rule of the flesh, you are admonished without correction, you experience death.

For the ones who act wickedly will be destroyed. But the ones who wait upon the Lord, they will inherit the earth (Psalm 37:9)

I think that this juxtaposition of the righteous and the wicked, is representing our course in God.

For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. (1 Corinthians 15:22)

We have to first experience the death 'in Adam', before we experience the life 'in Christ'. He came to save the perishing, the healthy have no need for a doctor.

The question is, will only the people who have been chosen to represent the life in Christ be saved, and the obvious answer to that is, no. Because;

Now if the firstfruits are holy, so is the whole batch. And if the root is holy, so are the branches. (Romans 11:16)

God hasn't made the majority of people, so he can destroy them, to show us a picture of how he saves us. The sabbath was made for man not man for the sabbath, these things are always pictures of life, not judgements to bring death. The commands of the Father are life.

Having said this, the judgement of the unrighteous is sometimes expressed as a hasty event.

when he takes vengeance with flaming fire on those who don't know God and on those who don't obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.  They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord's presence and from his glorious strength on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed. (2 Thessalonians 1:8-10)

They are judged by the appearance of the Lord. The way I see it, the death people suffer from seeing God, is the death of being 'in Adam', as they become like Christ, through the Spirit of God.

Dear friends, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that when he appears, we will be like him because we will see him as he is. (1 John 3:2)

And God is a God of mercy and love, always, this doesn't change the one time you really need it to be true (when he is judging you). Love does not keep a record of wrongs.

Paul's journey in Acts, starts with him judging people according to the Law, and casting votes for their death. And it ends with him being  guided by God, into a judgement in front of the king (symbolic of Jesus), resulting in life. So people's judgement = death, God's Judgement = mercy and life.

David answered Gad, "I have great anxiety. Please, let us fall into the LORD's hands because his mercies are great, but don't let me fall into human hands." (2 Samuel 24:14)

He loves mercy and justice. The earth is full of the mercy of the Lord. (Psalm 33:5) Here mercy and justice are spoken of together. There is no one who will be saved by anything other than the kindness of God, and his mercy is not just shown to one generation, the 'first fruits', for it to disappear from the next generation, he is not limited in his love. Jesus died for the whole world, so the whole world could see God's mercy.

1 Cor 15 .. 20 But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.


21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive.


23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.


24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.


25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.


26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For "God  has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "all things are put in subjection," it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him.


28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

  I have read that the foot  on   the neck is the form of  surrender  or holding them   like a prison ,
I can see sin as a form of  holding prisoners  to death and also see  Jesus Christ as holding them prisoners to Himself as  LIFE   also it is stated in 
2 Thessalonians 2:7 who is holding back the "secret power of lawlessness"?  Paul became a prisoner to Christ by preaching the gospel ...
