Title: Jesus was God's Son before being born by Mary
Post by: Tony N on January 31, 2009, 12:53:35 PM
Pro 30:4 Who has ascended the heavens and descended? Who has gathered the wind in both His hands? Who has tied up the waters in a garment? Who has confirmed all the limits of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name, in case you know?

If I could go back in a time machine to Job's day, I would have told Job, I know the Son's name! It is Jesus.

The New Ten Commandments . . .

Matthew 13:35
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

Matthew 25:34
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Luke 11:50
That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation;

John 17:24
Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.

Ephesians 1:4
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

Hebrews 4:3
For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.

Hebrews 9:26
For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.

1 Peter 1:20
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,

Revelation 13:8
And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Revelation 17:8
The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

I've heard it said "If the King James version was good enough for the Apostle Paul, it's good enough for me".  Either way it's funny.

Speaking of Paul, I'll throw this one in real quick for free...no charge.  I saw this the other day.  "When you rob Peter to pay Paul, it's easy to get Paul's vote". :offtopic: :punish:

Jn 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Bingo!
If I said: "I sent my son into Iraq, not to condemn Iraq but that Iraq might be saved from Sadam," Would my son be my son when he set foot in Iraq or before He went to Iraq? Before.

   John 1;15

'this was He of whom I said,  He who comes after me has surpassed me BECAUSE HE WAS BEFORE ME"

Mark 12 ;35  Whose Son is the Christ

How is it that the teachers of the Law,say that the Christ

is the son of David? David himself, speaking by the HOLY

  SPIRIT SAID,;

     The Lord said to My Lord;

     Sit at my right hand

     until I put your enemies

     under your feet'

  David himself,calls him Lord'

How then can he be his son?'

I completley agree. That's what the early church taught. If Jesus hasn't always been the Son then God wasn't always Father, but this is exactley what Jesus came to reveal to us - God is Abba. (Check out John 17.) There was never a time when the Father was not the Father and the Son was not the Son. The Son of God was litterally translated into the Son of man (Adam). In addition, the scriptures never say that Jesus just came. It always speaks about Him being sent by His Abba. In other words the Son was sent into the far country to bring His younger brothers and sisters home.

Hi all, thought i'd add a thought.

The Word is the "seed" of God. The son, as always, comes from the seed of the father. The son also carries the father's seed.

If I was to send my "son" into Iraq as the heavenly Father sent his son, I'd first have to find a willing bride in Iraq.

In this case you wouldn't send your son. You would go down there yourself and conceive a son with a bride from that nation. So this isn't the same thing as sending your son down there, or do I miss something here?

Exactly! God did come, via the Holy Spirit, he came to Mary and offered her his Word(seed), "unto thee a son shall be born". She willingly received his Word(seed) "be it unto me according to thy word". So the seed(Word) was planted in a willing vessel and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us!

I get this and I totally respect your view, but can one honestly say then that the Father sent His Son - as we read so many times, especially in John's Gospel account?! Just curious how you would interpret this...

I've always imagined that Jesus' life (as the Son and a spirit like His Father) was transferred into Mary's womb via the Holy Spirit and He became flesh- the Incarnation.  Is this not right?

Jesus said 'And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.' John 17:5- that sounds like He was the Son in Heaven with His Father, before the material universe was created.....

Another dimension of that is that God sent forth his seed (son) and planted it into the earth, where it died, was buried in the earth in a cave. . .but then spiritually germinated and birthed into the world a life producing form that became productive bearing fruit containing the original seed of life, which others receive and die, and are buried . .and reborn into another form of life bearing fruit . . .the circle of life in the kingdom of heaven.

This is difficult for me to put to print, hey it is a struggle to begin to sort it out
in my "brain,"  but this word from a brother on a differnet thread drew me like that
popped kernal of corn, being threaded to the needle and brought tight against the kernal before it; I hope I said that with some understandingI am being led to (I have found the word "FEEL" to be so off target when I believe I have recieved a part of the puzzle of the mystery we are to see.) He said this:

"I never look at it as one part this and one part that. It is all one. I am me.

Jesus was 100% God and 100% Man. A mystery to be sure but true as I see it.

There is the old man within my essence and there is the new man. Not 2 men, not even 2 entities. One man, me, one essence. I am the man God is making of me and I am a marred pot. I am both. I'm in a state of flux. Ever see the seething almost lifelike lava of boiling metal? It moves and changes and at every moment is turning solid and liquid and even a vaporous smoke all seemingly at the same time. Eventually it becomes what its master wants it to become and then it will be finished. I am finished in Christ, I am unfinished in Adam and between the 2 I am in a state of flux, of becoming."

cp

The word of understanding that I can relate to when I think this way is ENERGY. This
to me is the essence of IAM. At times this energy takes on the mode, be it name,
concieving, revealing.... I dont know if I said anything, if I did help me to understand.
Dave Thanks

Maybe I didn't word it correctly or whatever. But at the time I was looking for an OT reference to the Messiah, referring to Him as the Son of God in this way. Of course I can't see where that would infer He was a created being before being born by Mary, but that's another issue. I seriously doubt I'll find a creditable commentary not attributing this as a Messianic verse.

I consider what "form" Christ has in heaven. And what relation is there between the Father and his Word. Were they equal in understanding, experience and authority? Did/do they have a father to son relationship?

When you close your eyes and imagine the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in heaven what picture do you see?

That's a tuffy. I wonder if Isaiah might have something concerning the messianic scriptures if any of them speak of Him being a Son of God?

Of course Peter said that the prophets had the spirit of Christ (i.e. Messiah) and they prophesied concerning Him, so I wonder if David's prophecy: "My Son art Thou, I today have begotten Thee" might have intimations to the Messiah in the O.T.?

Psa 110:1 A Davidic Psalm The averring of Yahweh to my Lord:Sit at My right Until I should set Your enemies as a stool for Your feet.

Yahweh said to my Adoni and so David's Lord or Adoni is the Messiah?

Though this passage may not help in your request, I think it continues the topic of this thread:

Pro 8:29 When He established for the sea its statutory limit, So that the waters may not pass beyond His bidding, When He delineated the foundations of the earth."
Pro 8:30 Then I was beside Him as His foster child, And I was filled with bliss day by day, Gamboling before Him all the time,
