I've been pondering 1 John 3:8 where it says "...for this purpose the Son of God, was manifested that He might undo the works of the devil".
In light of UR and the ultimate reconciliation of all, this makes absolute sense, since the works of the devil began with, or, more accurately, included his trickery in Eden which brought about death, etc.
But it makes much less sense if untold numbers of people and also Angels (disobedient) are to perish (or worse!).
For if that were to be so, it seems to me it would fall far short of "undoing the works of the devil".
Perhaps this has already been discussed and surely is on the lists of UR verses, but it's the first (that I remember) noticing it myself and I wanted to mention it.

Glenda, I hope I'm not intruding, but I think these verses tie in well with your opening post. I'm not really familiar with the Net Bible, but this translation of Hebrews 2 resonated well for me. I read it over and over, and it just gets better:
1 Therefore we must pay closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For if the message spoken through angels proved to be so firm that every violation or disobedience received its just penalty, 3 how will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? I.M.O the devil tries to hide these facts.
The accusations, along with the reminders/convictions of our sin, seem to put pressure on us to perform well or to fall short of the mark.
All of this detracts from what Christ accomplished.
In the flesh we make many mistakes and fail a lot. Again I.M.O this seems to makes us accept that as normal; ergo since Christ came in the flesh He too may have not achieved fully what He was trying to do.
That seems to be the problem of many leaders who have instilled this rubbish in the religions of the world.
Interesting that many prophecies say that the leaders will be exposed just like Christ was causing upsets among the Pharisees and Sadducees.
As pointed out in 1 John 4;4 " Christ is greater than the devil."
The devil was created like he is from the beginning. So he must have been made for a purpose.
Job highlights his limitations. In the end Job was blessed afterwards greater than he was to start.
Isaiah also noticed that the word will not return void.
The things to come are greater than the current- all because of Christ.
The devil is not talked about in the resurrection stages except for his correction process.
For me, grasping that concept eliminates fear of failure.

Also I think John provides a clue as to HOW he destroys the work of the devil, an "all in all" or an all WITHIN all thing.
1 John 3
7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning.
The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 9
No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God's child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.
