Title: How does UR stand up in the light of the "unforgivable sin?"
Post by: Gracewalker1985 on February 13, 2015, 06:01:11 PM
I promise I come in peace! Just a simple kind of girl here asking honest questions. :dunno2:
So what do we do with those passages in Mark and Matthew about no forgiveness for blasphemy of the Holy Spirit up against UR? :JCThink: :surrender:

Alright, it seems I'm getting the awkward silence again.  :JCThink: Hope I didn't ask the wrong question, and step on any toes.

You need to use the "search" on the subject it has been discussed many times. :dsunny:

Well, excuse me!  Some of us are completely new to all this. I didn't know it had already been previously asked. Sheesh! :newb:

C'mon Grace, don't be so touchy. I'm sure it's fine that you asked a question that has already been discussed on the forum before and you can look back and read it if you want to. In my opinion the question of what the unforgivable sin is isn't important to understand and there are more valuable ways to use your time and more important things to try to understand.  :HeartThrob:

Okay, you got me! Maybe I was a little too touchy there. My bad. Maybe some of my frustration is showing through a little. Sorry, I'm a little off my game at the moment. Since I've been trying to be objective, and search this subject out. I'm honestly just a little confused, and out of my comfort zone.

Hi Grace,
The term "unforgivable" is not found in the Bible either in the Greek or even in the KJV. It's a nickname for a misunderstanding. Looking at the two scriptures, Jesus says that they shall not be forgiven either in this age or the age to come, and in another he says that they shall not be forgiven in this age (aion) but are in danger of "aionios" judgement (judgement of an age).

I've written more here if interested: http://mercifultruth.com/eternity.html

:)

IMO, lot of good answers.  I like what Seth just said.

also, I personally see it as Jesus was talking to a group of people before the cross, aka, AGE of Law ("this" age).  Then there's the next (the one we're now in), then after that, ages to come.  "This age or the next..."  I personally factor that in.   :2c:

I never saw it in that light. Thx jabcat!

Grace, I think you will find that as you shake off the eternal torment mindset, you will begin to see the "unforgivable sin" as a non-issue.  I see it as a red herring. :declare:

Some thoughts on the misnomer "unforgiveable sin"

Jesus' words about about blasphemy of the Holy Spirit in Mark 3:28-30

"Truly I say to you, all sins shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they utter;  but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin"—  because they were saying, "He has an unclean spirit."

"has not forgiveness to the aion but is guilty of aionion sin".

aion is a noun, describing an age, or an indefinite period of time in the distant future.

aionion is an adjective, describing the nature of the transgression

"has not forgiveness to the age but is guilty of aionian sin(a sin with repercussions in the ages to come)". is how I read it after studying in the lexicon and interlinear.

Young's Literal Translation renders it this way:

`Verily I say to you, that all the sins shall be forgiven to the sons of men, and evil speakings with which they might speak evil,
but whoever may speak evil in regard to the Holy Spirit hath not forgiveness -- to the age, but is in danger of age-during judgment;'

Matthew 12:31:32

"Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to come.

In the age to come, their will still be sinners on earth. They will still be able to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, and they will suffer "aionian kolassis" if they do so, even as in this age. This means that it is a sin that cannot be simply released ("whosoever sins you remit are remitted unto them"), but are retained until the correction after the Great White Throne(lake of fire).

Eph 2:7 that He might show, in the ages that are coming, the exceeding riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus,

There are different opinions on how many ages there will be, but most agree that we are in this present age, there is an age to come at the second coming where Christ rules and then an age after the second resurrection- at least  2 more ages.

So IMO, Jesus was not talking about "forever". he was speaking of the judgments and corrective punishments in ages to come.

These explanations have cleared up my understanding of this some. I'm guilty of putting this subject on the far back shelf. And it is a problem for ETers too. I knew one man who thought he had committed the unforgivable sin and as far as I know he died thinking that. Maybe he knows better now. Thanks Grace for asking.  :gimmefive:
