When you talk to God is it like the way you would talk to a friend?  Or do you speak to God differently?

Ive seen some people making a huge song and dance about talking to God with massive lengthy speeches that don't really go anywhere and seem really half-hearted, and i sometimes imagine God sitting up on high looking down thinking...
"Oh come on you dithering man get on with it!"

I talk to God as a friend, although i do tend to really guard my speech around him and try to speak clearly and in a respectful manner but I would say that i generally speak to him as I think he wants to be spoken too....the way I would speak to anyone.  I think he likes that.

What about you?

I talk to him like I would my Father. Friendly but ultimately respectful. Of course I know that God has a sense of humor too. He loves us, no need to be nervous or make a big speech. And of course just as I get mad at my Dad occasionally I get mad at God, but the thing is that eventually I come to realize that it's usually me who's wrong.

:cloud9: When I first came to Him, and realized the greatest revelation of my life, ie. that God is real and He speaks, and we can actually communicate with Him WITHOUT dying, I told Him I wanted us to have a real Father/daughter relationship. I told Him I wanted to be able to talk honestly to Him; if I was mad, I wanted to vent to Him about whatever it was He was making me do I didn't want to do, and not have to worry about lightning striking me dead, LOL. In other words, I wanted RELATIONSHIP.

I got it. Sometimes He spoke to me things I didn't want to hear, because it meant I was falling short of the mark. Sometimes He said funny things that took me by surprise because He had a sense of humor, and we all before knowing Him, think He is so austere and distant.

I talk to Him all the time, but now it's mostly praise and worship, as opposed to trying to tell Him how I think things should be  :mblush:. Now as I've matured from the 'bratty teenager' phase, I mostly listen, knowing that whatever my Father says is PRECIOUS beyond rubies.

I found out recently that He can still shake me up pretty badly causing me to think one of us has lost our minds (pretty sure it isn't HIM ), but I'm less likely to bolt for very long at the first sign of discomfort in dying to self, and new revelations.

Now at least, after years of the dealings of God, He has got me to the point of "coming back the next day" and trying to keep pressing in past anything in me that still wants to sit in the temple and declare that it is God, instead of running for months trying to avoid the inevitable, as I tried in my spiritual youth. Where can we run, because He's IN US? Blessings.....
