Explain to me how you approach the word of God to come to sound exegesis. No, human reasoning is not sound exegesis. lol. I'm only being serious guys. Thanks.

You have been a busy little beaver for such a limited time here on the Tent, 37  :laughing7: Are you aware of the fact that one cannot receive anything unless it be given him from above? It is so.
Are our broadest hopes broad enough? Shall there be a nook or abyss, in all the universe of God, finally unlightened by the Cross? Shall there be a sin, or sorrow, or pain unhealed? Is the very universe, is creation in all its extent, a field wide enough for the Son of God?

Hehe, I was looking at his profile and thought the same thing. But I know there is a purpose and it will either be realized, or it won't. :)

Please answer the threads question. Please do not hijack it with senseless rhetoric. Thanks.

Alrighty then, and I would love to hear what you have to say about my thread which prompted this one from you my brother. I will not respond to it, because I do simply wish to know how you would answer it.

Anyway, I believe that to get a surface understanding of the basics of what the Bible teaches, and of doctrine, one should certainly look to context. But by that I mean not just the context of surrounding verses in the same book, but the context of the whole of scripture as well. For example, a more well-rounded understanding of what the lake of fire is and the great white throne judgement can be had by comparing it with the parallel account in Daniel 7.

I also believe in applying biblical hermeneutics, studying the history of what a word meant at the time it was written, etc.

However, having said all that, there is no understanding ultimately of the truths of God, those things pertaining to his purpose, without revelation. Things such as that must come from him. No amount of study can make this happen. The Pharisees give ample proof of this.

The scriptures were written in such a way that these types of differences would be able to exist. God has a reason for hiding his truth from the natural mind and giving it only to the spiritual mind. By the way, you have that mind just as much as I do. We all have the mind of Christ. In his time, and in his way, he reveals all we need to know. This way he, in the end, gets glory in every imaginable circumstance by man proving that no matter what we try to do apart from him, no matter how much intellect we try to muster, it all must ultimately be of him.

Lots of homiletics is passed off as hermaneutics.  I personally think that traditional Biblical hermeneutics, whether you're talking general hermeneutics or special hermeneutics is more an art than a science.

I can't speak for everybody else, or for anybody else, but my own interpretive principles are literal except where the text actually tells you otherwise, and to look at the context of the entire Bible, the context of the entire New Covenant, and context of an entire author of the Bible, and the context of spiritual principles that I've learned are solidly anchored in the Word by a boat load of passages throughout the Bible.

In other words, [as an example,] because of what I believe about the atonement, faith, and what the Scriptures say to me about the intent of God regarding the overcoming of believers, our being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, etc., then I'm very careful about reexamining any doctrine that's been traditionally used to say the opposite of what I'm firmly clear about in Scripture, such as suffering, affliction, evil, etc.

There's the occasional passage like Mark 4 that'll specifically say that if you don't understand this, then don't go to the next page and forget about everything that I've said up until now until you get this right here.  Mark 4 isn't the only one like that.  There are a few other passages like that in the Scriptures.

So, for me, interpretation isn't random meditations or cookie cutting [like it is with some folks] but is deeply philosophical with reading everything in the context of all of the victories secured for us through the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the basic common sense Scriptures throughout the Bible that tell me personally that God doesn't work against Himself, such as in 1Corinthians 14 where it says that God is not the author of confusion.

Other folks, in my estimation, build everything around a very perverted view of sufferings that's thoroughly unscriptural and negates the Cross.  But in saying that, I'm not saying that that's where everyone is coming from that would differ with me about quite a bit.  That just seems to be what they'll squabble over with their ideas that you can never come to a place in this life where you win every single time, etc.

Hi Chosen,

I think God is gonna love it when you die physically and meet Him in the next phase of existence. I think He might even pat you on the back for how you put us all in our place here on this forum. You have much to be proud of Chosen, I hope this kind of discussion is worth it all.

Remember, God looks at the motive of the heart as well as other things. I know, I know, you are here just to learn. You are a sincere seeker, it comes across quite clearly, you must have a huge amount of Holy Spirit power within you.

Think my friend, think. Be very careful. It's one thing to have a secret agenda with other people like us but it is quite another matter to fool around with God and those He loves and His Word.

Again, I know you have only the purest motives at heart and are just a humble learner of God and His ways and you think we might have answers for you here on this forum. You seem the perfect disciple. Jesus may be very proud of you. He may want you with Him very soon, you are so genuine.

Again, be careful my friend. You and your friends who I am sure you report to and get encouragment from must get much from you discussing with us. I'm sure you show them how silly our responses are while showing them your most excellent responses. This should be great for your ego even though I know you are not discussing with us for any kind of ego trip. Not you, no way. You seem to be a guiding light to many of 'your flock' and now you will have lots to report to them. You will be exalted to the heavens by those who get your reports and again, I know any exaltation would be strongly discouraged by you as you are just a humble servant of Jesus trying to save others.

Again, do you really mean sound exegesis or what you believe to be sound exegesis? I don't know which one you want and you have not made it clear yet from all your postings.

I know it's not your version of sound exegesis Chosen but maybe you could condescend to giving me a thought or two on what I wrote. You don't have to obviously as it was not written for a response but how you ignore speaks loudly.

That's because I've asked you 4 times which 'sound exegesis' you prefer, sound exegesis or your version of sound exegesis? When you answer me I can answer you.

Also let me add my note to you again as I don't think you have absorbed it as you may need to....

Cp,

lol, perhaps you don't have sound exegesis of scripture and maybe ,just maybe ,that is why your doctrine beliefs are a train wreck, huh? lol. just kiddin cp I know you are on the sensitive side. Seriously, this thread is for how you interpret the word of God. your comments are for another thread.

claypot

I am really anxious for you to respond to Mollys response in the other thread. Can't remember which one but it just popped up so it should be fresh on top. The Jude 13 thread.

I guess I am only sensitive to someone who gets so sensitive as to outright slander me, something only the adversary of God and man would do, otherwise I'm a pretty level headed, funny and likable guy.

By the way are you male or female?

Whether my doctrine beliefs are a train wreck or not matters not as much as my personal beliefs and relationship with Jesus Christ.

And just to help you understand where I am coming from, I have produced, not a translation, but scriptures that goes back to the original Hebraic pictograph alephbet. That primarily is what I study, as it helps to keep the lost meaning that often creeps in with translating from one language to another.

It is found here if you wish to see it. You will have to install the ancient Hebrew font in order to see the characters in the scriptures themselves, which I have a link to the site where you can get it. Oh, and you will need to use internet explorer or google chrome to view it, and possibly Opera. Firefox unfortunately does not support the font.

Anyone know where I can find this software still? Or at least, Card, could you show how and where to study these "word pictures" and etc? Thanks.

Do you know any good specific video series and/or websites for learning paleo Hebrew?

And, to go with that, good resources for studying the OT and NT in paleo Hebrew, maybe ones that you use(d)
