I appreciate your input Anti- I'm tossing in my  :2c:
the conventional heaven and hell doctrine is anything but boring when you consider a creator that's willing to tortue most of his creation for doing (after Adam) what they could not keep from doing.
The conventional doctrine of heaven and hell is NOT inhuman in that humans thought it up in the first place. Burning your sons and daughters in the fire? God says that such an abomination NEVER even entered his mind.
The doctrine of heaven and hell is undivine. TRUE. See above concerning inhuman.
The conventional doctrine of heaven and hell is NOT silly as it has caused a great deal of misery, anguish, servitude to other men, fear, murder (infanticide to "save" the children, justification of abortion, subjugation of native peoples, setting up worship (the Pope)and semi-worship of "men of the cloth". It has even caused "false" salvation experiences. No, my friend, it is not silly but dead serious. :Peace2:

Right Marie :thumbsup: before humans invented hell, God had created logic. Logic is like the laws of the universe except God can and does sometimes circumvent the laws of the universe.(which he also instituted) When this occurs, it is called a miracle. Logic is different in that God is never illogical while man quite often is. (IMO, this is why the character of Spock on Star Trek was so intriguing)

Hell is a 404:  error/not found.

Heaven is so amazing that Jesus Himself had to speak of it indirectly to His human audience:  "The kingdom of heaven is like..."
Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

YHVH = Behold the Nail, Behold the Hand = Jesus

I have found that there is a certain 'human' character to the notion of hell.

It seems to give folk a way of getting back at those who wronged them without their actually having to do anything to risk themselves.  I've talked to a lot of people about hell, and it's usually where the people who disagree with them, or have hurt them, or are mean to them go.  It seems to be:  "you're going to hell for what you did to me, just you wait, I'll have the last laugh."  Hell seems to be place where those who think themselves just can envision those who aren't spending eternity.  They can then draw comfort from the thought that that their enemies will eventually see that they (the just) were right:  nah nah nah nah boo boo.

I think believing there is a hell, may have a psychological component.  Some people seem to find the belief that their enemeis are going to hell comforting.

I have found this kind of thinking to be eminently human.

Admiral Rickover was interveiwing future President of the United States Jimmy Carter, when he was just graduated from the Naval academy and was going to be a submarine Captain.
Rickover was facing away from Carter as he entered and was placing some pins on a map. "Tell me the truth ensign Carter, when you were at the Naval academy, did you always do the absolute best you could do?" he asked.
Carter lowered his head and looked down at his shoes and spoke softly, "No sir, I didn't."
Admiral Rickover whirled around and with eyes flaring said loudly, "Why NOT"
Carter answered, "I have no excuse, sir"

The test wasn't whether he had done his absolute best or not, the test was to see how honest he was and if he tried to make an excuse.
Carter never forgot that day though and subsequently wrote a book entitled, "Why NOT the Best?"
When we confess, we haven't done our best and we have no excuse, Jesus steps forward and says, "I did his best for him." Thank God we won't remember the former things and our failures, and lies and not loving all or as much as we could have loved.
