The grass of the field

"So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin;  29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? (Matthew 6:28-30)

When reading this passage yesterday something struck me. If ET correct, there would be no contrast made between mankind and the grass of the field, as most of mankind would ALSO be described as "today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven". Yet Jesus makes a distinction, showing how precious mankind is, and how we are not simply to be thrown in an oven (hell) tomorrow.

Now, what is really interesting is that this can be tied to Isaiah 6, which DOES describe "all flesh" and people as being like grass. To me, these two passages taken together show that the temporal things fade away like grass, and indeed one might argue that the grass of the flesh itself shall see the oven of God's fiery refinement, but the indwelling word shall abide in us, and we can therefore expect better things than being utterly burned up.

Amen! like grass we all grow old and fade.. and there would we all remain if not for His intervention and perfect intent.. For those in the graves shall hear His voice!

And what goodness of character! that if He so clothe the quickly fading field of grass with delicate, beautiful flowers :HeartThrob: how much more does He clothe and provide for His children!

I read or heard somewhere that the people gathered and twisted the grasses for their cooking fires, so it seems to me even if it were worse case scenario and the grass comparison implies burning and not only fading/death/nonlife, it is very clearly temporary.. :smile: :thumbsup:

As the seed becomes grass and sprouts for its season beneath the sun, the blade and the bloom are also seeds, to be sown in the earth at the end of their season, but then to rise up in the new heavens and the new earth, old things passed away, all things become new.
