Because sins don't erase good works :-)

Things that happened just happened and nothing changes that. 100 days of sunny weather don't change the fact it rained yesterday.
There are two important things about sins.
a] The sin itself is bad and can't be undone.
b] The repenting process which means changing your ways. Good works certainly fit in somewhere in that process.

So while the sins themselves happened and won't be erased, it doesn't mean there isn't a path away from those sins. It doesn't mean those sins will be held against you for eternity.

John the baptist said....who showed you the way...therefore do works befitting of repentance.......

which means,to me, we 'TUrN"off that path........follow Jesus which is the WAY..unto the Father, the

promises...  like  Israel/sheep wandering in the wilderness..when we wanderaway from the Shepherd/God we are

sure to perish...but if we heed the Shepherd's voice..and follow or come to Him..then He will lead us

through, protect us,feed us,carry us.....and get us to where we need to be..in Him.

...and while it be a fact that we followed a path[walked in a way not good] it is left behind..for we are

on a different path now...and who knows...the wind, rain and  time may totally blot out that

formerpath behind us.....[the former things shall be forgotten/sin remembered no more]love keeps no

record of the offense[written in the dust]

  great replies WW and Shelia

and agree
a day of rain  is  just that  but yet there are many days of no rain
   who can change that ?

we cannot change our natures it takes Gods work  in us though Jesus Christ   to change error / sin is simply error    and it   leads to death

Only God can change our minds    and course

QuoteWhy do good works don't erase sins ?

Good works only come from God   though Jesus Christ and so    the best  you can have is being COVERED BY  GOD , GOD ID LOVE and Jesus Christ Is the manifestation  of Gods Love toward us

we must see our error /sin  that leads to death   in order to  be set free from it     and Jesus comes to do just that , He come openly     the first time    over 2000  years ago   and showed us     the way [ narrow path that leads to life

now He comes by [Holy SPIRIT   Father & SON   ]  this relationship  to show us how   it is done     and   teach  by praying/interceding  on our behalf ,   to dwell within us   ,  to keep us   covered and   KNOW LOVE by walking in the Spirit  and spreading the love of God  to one another .we do no good works of our own    , its God doing the works   though Christ the anointing  of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ  /WORD OF GOD made flesh
not mortal flesh of old adam , but immortality   in the body of Jesus Christ .

  1 Peter 4 ;8   Living for God's Glory!!
...7The end of all things is near; therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit for the purpose of prayer. 8Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins

for me you have to know what sin is first , before you can be  changed,   that is why     sin remains  , to remember what  man you were  and stay  humbled    in the love of God    2 Corinthians 5:14-21

14 For the love of Christ constrains  us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:

15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not from now on  live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

16 Wherefore from now on  know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now  know we him no more.

17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

So them sins are not being held against them   anymore in Christ,,, because of error   , being put on the right path  , when something is new it is no longer   what  it was   , its been  remade    done over again      , has a new purpose

Don't forget this as well, that God is not willing to count sins, as if He were punching your ticket or something, SO THAT NO MAN CAN BOAST of lack of sin.  I think it ties in with the parable of the men hired for the whole day vs the men hired for an hour:  they all got the same pay/reward.

Why do good works don't erase sins. Thank you very much

Works of the Law do not earn the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes through faith alone, and once it does it heals the carnal mind which results in good works, and therefore saves you from evil works.
