what is resurrected?

Since these bodies will indeed be returned to dust when we die, and often that dust is scattered, what part is resurrected? Christ, our Forerunner, did not decompose as we do/will. I cannot figure out what part of us is resurrected. What part of us is brought from corruption to incorruption, from weakness to power? It seems that Christ's glorified body resembled the one he walked earth with, but He did not decompose at death.

According to Jewish thought the body is rebuild. http://tentmaker.org/forum/lounge/judas-and-the-potter's-field/msg127138/#msg127138

The Spirit returns to God were it came from.

Deena,

Generally speaking there are 2 big problems with your question.
1] We aren't told much on the subject besides some verses that can be made to fit a zillion doctrines
2] The other life is so vastly different it's hard to describe with earthly things. Maybe like explaining color to the blind and sound to the deaf.

:dontknow:
1 Timothy 2:3-4  ...God our Savior;  Who will have all men to be saved...
John 12:47  And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Romans 4:5 But to the one who does not work, but believes in the one who declares the ungodly righteous ...

Thanks WW. It is a hopeful message that God will form something new out of the dust, a new creation not hindered as we currently are. I was just thinking about the passage, unless a kernel of wheat goes to the ground and dies, it will remain alone. Do we have some kind of kernel in us (the seed of Christ)? There must be something of us that is resurrected, otherwise all the lessons of life that He teaches us are lost. That would make life purposeless.

Deena, we must never forget in whom's image we were created. We are not the human body we inhabit, for the body does indeed return to dust.

We will be raised in our true/natural form as Spirit.  :girlheart:

1Cr 15:42
.......... The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;

1Cr 15:43
it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

1Cr 15:44
it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

1Cr 15:45
So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"fn; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

1Cr 15:46
The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.

1Cr 15:47
The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven.

1Cr 15:48
As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven.

1Cr 15:49
And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall wefn bear the image of the heavenly man.

1Cr 15:50
I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

We will never suffer pain or die again  :HeartThrob:

anyone ever heard of the term'living clay"?

Deena

Julie, those are some of my favorite verses when I am fed up with my flesh--like a lead brick tied to a drowning man do I find it. However, I was just wondering, what part of us will be resurrected? The implication is we die, but something is resurrected. No doubt it is something spiritual. Well, perhaps there is no answer, but we will find out in time. If death is just a "dirt nap" as Laz says, what part of us "wakes up"? Where is that part kept waiting for the alarm clock?

Ecc 12:7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

The body is the dust (clay) and returns to its former state.

Jesus was resurrected spirit, soul and body("For you see that a spirit has nor flesh and bone as I have"- the resurrected Christ). John says, (1 John 3:2) Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

Paul says, (Romans 8:22-25) For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.  And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.  For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.

To me, it is kind of fruitless to make confident statements about something that John said "we know not yet" and Paul said "we see through a glass darkly", but from these(1 john and other scriptures it is clear to be that we are resurrected spirit, soul and body, into a glorified form that transcends anything we can presently conceive of.

Jesus, however, went out of His way to make it clear that He was resurrected physically as well as every other way.

Luke 24:36-43 While they were telling these things, He Himself stood in their midst and *said to them, "Peace be to you." But they were startled and frightened and thought that they were seeing a spirit.  And He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself; touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet. While they still could not believe it because of their joy and amazement, He said to them, "Have you anything here to eat?" They gave Him a piece of a broiled fish; and He took it and ate it before them.

EW, you get my point, or question. So what part of us is resurrected? If I am cremated and my ashes scattered in the sea, what is resurrected? The implication in the word is that something was dead, but is now brought back to life. What is brought back to life? Where is it in death?

sheila

not to answer for EW,Deena....my  :2c:......what is quickened..resurrected...is the immortal

holy seed God planted in the 'earth"....the writing of His laws in a heart of flesh.......that which

lays in the heart of the earth for 3 days[falls to the earth and dies] is resurrected to bear

much fruit in heaven.[brought to Glory in the heavens in His likeness]

that which seemed /appeared...weak in the earth[God chose the weak and despized things]

the law of kinds of the seed...reproduce after it's kind...applies to the Holy seed........

the seed of Love holds within it the 'promise' of it's full manifestation....it is clothed in Glory

in the heavens[given it's own body/soul/spirit]

in this realm of wickedness..the seed of love in man is seen as weak..it becomes as prey

in the earth..and is often despized...the powers of wickedness/evil seeks to destroy it/dissolve

it with corruption[swallow it up]...and though it appear it has done just that thing..when it

lies hidden under the earth[as dead]..though it appear as fruitless in this earth...it has a life

of it's own[the Father has granted me life in myself] and it lives on eternally.

...it is raised up in power...and will dwell in peace and security/unmolested of the wickedness

of this realm...for God has named that the spirit of love in man should bear His likeness and Glory

that it should live before Him forever and dwell with Him eternally. He has places prepared

in the heavens for love to dwell...many wonderful things stored up for it's provision and dwelling.

He has decreed that it bear much fruit and increase...that no weapon formed against it

shall ever suceed.   For you see...when God said..'Let us make man in our image and likeness"

that was the conceiving  of man  by God..in love...........and when the word of God  come in flesh

by His holy spirit...that was the begetting of the sons/daughters of God  and the rising of many

children unto Glory.   For when the word 'let us make man in our image and likeness' was spoken

that was the beginning of a good work of God in man...and He shall finish it...and that is why

God said  'it is good" when He created man" and Jesus said 'it is finished"  when He delivered up

His spirit unto the Father.

  and we are His progency........

Any scripture verse for this statement, "Jesus was resurrected spirit, soul and body..." :Chinscratch:

I think there is a disconnect between the vision we are accustomed to here on earth .
The IMORTAL body will have new eyes that will see truth.
The doubting Thomas;
even thought he was handling Jesus and inspecting his body .
Still only saw with his mortal eyes.
We will only see jesus with the new eyes of the spirit.

So I think that we will have a new vision process as part of our immortal bodies.
I also believe there are more colors and different perceptions of depth,
We will have an eternal walk of discovery.

Mark 16 _6

Jesus the Nazarene

Quite a few times when ever the spirits named the Christ.
They called him Jesus the Nazarene.

Demons called him Jesus the Nazarene

Angles called him Jesus the Nazarene.

Is his body Nazarene ?
Or is his soul Nazarene?

I'm not an expert in this topic but I think I can maybe give a glimpse into it. The part of us that walks in the resurrection is our spirit. It is with our spirit that we hear Christ, that we see Christ reflected in His creation and the scriptures and the body of Christ. It is that that Jesus "knows" but that "knows is very intimate.

There will be a time when Jesus will say to many "depart from me, I never knew you. The rest of our being, certainly our body, will rot. Not sure about the soul though. Hope this helps a bit.

Shalom

Jock.  :2c:

Here is the answer the Bible offers. 1Co 15:21  for since through man is the death, also through man is a rising again of the dead,
The DEAD are caused to rise again(resurrection)'
Can't find anything about, "what part of us is resurrected."

dajomaco

I think most scientist agree that dust is an other word for a group of particles.
Adam was made from the dust; or group of particles found in the Garden of Eden.

The physical body of Jesus was made from the dust ; of Nazareth

Geographical areas different greatly .
Does the dust we are made of or where that dust comes from
have something to do with our resurrected body.

Thanks to all. I think it has just led me to more questions, but this is not a bad thing. In learning patience (of which I am a slow learner), it has been my experience that God answers in the right time. I get frustrated with my lack of knowledge, but I put my trust in Him who has the words of eternal life, even if I do not like it at the time. That is tough for me and the true walk of faith: do you believe God or your understanding? I am so glad that the One who orchestrates all things is smarter than me.

Oh Deena, thank you so much for these very encouraging reminders and a very thought-provoking question.

1.  God answers in the right time
2.  put trust in Him Who has the words of eternal life
3.  frustrated...tough... but lead to a true walk of faith

Do you believe God or your understanding?

I expanded the question a bit to fit my latest thoughts...

or the understanding God gave me when I was very young, or the understanding He gave me when I was a teenager, or the understanding He gave me as I searched the Scriptures, or ... I know God doesn't change...His love and mercy are everlasting...

I've been thinking that He so very graciously gave me an understanding of Himself that I could "bear" at any given time...

John 16:12
I have much more to say to you, but you are unable at present to bear the burden of it.

Hi Deena,

IMO evrything is resurrected, the entire being and body of the person raised- but into a new state that transcends our present one, "clothed with imortality"- a state that no one as yet understands or can define.

As for where "it/we" are in death, my opinion is that the body becomes dust(returns to basic elements) and our spirit and soul awaken in the "day of the Lord" in whatever order(first, second resurrection etc) to which we have been appointed. In between death and the day, I am not sure exactly what/where we are, and I am not convinced by and of the major positions(non-existence, sleep of the dead, etc) that any of them have it all right since they all seem to ignore certain scriptures when it suits them.

But God gives it a body as He wants, and to each of the seeds its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same flesh; there is one flesh for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is different from that of the earthly ones. 41 There is a splendor of the sun, another of the moon, and another of the stars; for one star differs from another star in splendor. 42 So it is with the resurrection of the dead:

Sown in corruption, raised in incorruption;
43 sown in dishonor, raised in glory;
sown in weakness, raised in power;
44 sown a natural body, raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: The first man Adam became a living being;[m] the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, then the spiritual.

47 The first man was from the earth
and made of dust;
the second man is[n] from heaven.
48 Like the man made of dust,
so are those who are made of dust;
like the heavenly man,
so are those who are heavenly.
49 And just as we have borne
the image of the man made of dust,
we will also bear
the image of the heavenly man.
Victorious Resurrection
50 Brothers, I tell you this: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, and corruption cannot inherit incorruption. 51 Listen! I am telling you a mystery:

We will not all fall asleep,
but we will all be changed,
52 in a moment, in the blink of an eye,
at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound,
and the dead will be raised incorruptible,
and we will be changed.
53 For this corruptible must be clothed
with incorruptibility,
and this mortal must be clothed
with immortality.
54 When this corruptible is clothed
with incorruptibility,
and this mortal is clothed
with immortality,
then the saying that is written will take place:
Death has been swallowed up in victory.

  • 55 Death, where is your victory?
    Death, where is your sting?[p]
56 Now the sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.
57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
    through our Lord Jesus Christ!

58 Therefore, my dear brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the Lord's work, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Look at a seed any seed .If you do not know the seed or where it came from stare at it and try to decide what color the petals will be,
or even if has petals it might be a tree or a bush.(you can only guess)
But if you know where the seed came from you do not have to guess.
We know our seed came from God
We have in faith seen the seed come up from the ground.
We are the seed of Christ.
