Idom #60 - Bury my father

Luke 9
59 He said to another man, "Follow me." But he replied, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
60 Jesus said to him, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God."

Bury my father = Let me take care of my father until he dies.
Hi.  I would just like to share something else attributed to Jesus that would seem to contradict what he said was more important elsewhere.  For instance, one of the problems with much of Christianity, and many other religions, is people sincerely desiring to share their religion, and Christians to share Christ, but do not have any where enough experience to do so well.  The existence of many denominations, meaning many differing ideas about the same written words of scripture, shows this pretty severely to us.  There is also supposed to be over 70 different versions of the bible, all originating from some of the same old sources.  Knowing the Hebrew of the scriptures of their day did not help the people of Israel know or be able to recognize Jesus in them and the difference that Jesus makes between good and evil with His witness of the truth of God.

The word "first" in the following scripture stands out to me.   Mat_6:33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Revelation says that the words of the "little book" will be sweet in OUR mouth but bitter to OUR belly.   I believe that if we believe that the tree of life and the tree of good and evil were real wooden trees with some kind of physical fruit we could eat with our physical bodies through our mouth, we are already going to see things double minded.  There is no fruit on some physical wood tree that has fruit that gives one life if they eat it.  And there is no wooden tree that has physical fruit on it of two kinds that we can eat with our mouth and know what the difference is between good and evil.

The tree of life represents the fruit of God witnessed by Jesus Christ.  He did no evil with "his life in his body".  IF we eat or taste of his fruit as being the truth about God we will find life "after we seek His righteousness" for our selves.  Tasting his methods {follow me, pick up our own cross, etc.} will be experiencing love, compassion, forgiveness, kindness, in a depth that by feeling these things we taste of them in our own spirit as emotions or attributes of God.  There are more than these of course.  These produce GOOD RESULTS upon all and IN all that they are tasted\felt\experienced by and when we treat others through these spiritual emotions.  They produce kindness and life supporting results toward others, even if we experience something bad to ourselves and we forgive it and do nothing at all to the person of people who hurt us.   This fruit does no work of death to anyone, even the one doing the hurtful things.  {turn the other cheek, do no hurtful physical vengeance in return to anyone, etc.}   This takes the indwelling love of GOD to accomplish and remain this way.  The LAMB.
This is Jesus' witness of God who is LIFE.

Natural mankind, the Spirit of man, is the "tree" that responds to things in the world with good kind results at times and yet out of the same mouth and person there is also an ability to do hurtful damaging things to other people for selfish and reflex responses.  Mankind as the OLD MAN is the tree or source of both good and evil results.

If we do or begin to live our life {walk} in a manner that Jesus witnessed, we are promised through Him in us to begin to be strengthened with the ability to do what He did and thus TASTE OF LIFE, His fruit.   Jesus had the desires and ways of the Spirit {life} of God in Him, and in his flesh had the very same lusts or appetites that we do in our flesh.  We know man, no matter what he believes, can do good to some and evil to some, sometimes even the same person he did good to can have evil done to them by that same person who was good to them.  {This is quite a natural state of some marriages of a few years duration that end in divorce or even thoughts of divorce, etc.}

Our emotions can be understood as spiritual taste buds.  Anger, hate, jealousy, etc. can all produce evil hurtful physical and emotional results in and upon others that these emotions dwell in or are vented upon.   They are not witnessed by Jesus as being of God in him.  HE did not allow them to be acted upon in him.  That is what the temptations he suffered were, from other people and ways in the world.

The emotions and the results of fruit of love, kindness, forgiveness, understanding, etc. were what HE witnessed as being of the Father in him. He witnessed them by choosing to be and remain in the Spirit of the goodness of Love that is the father in him.  IN doing so we SEE THE FATHER through Him.  Then we are asked to walk in the world like He did, minus the preaching idea. Not all can be a preacher for if all were preachers there would be no congregations.

We are to seek God's righteousness to be in us first, and the rule of God in us first, and THEN all the rest of the abilities such as sharing Christ will be given to us.  But we are not asked to mentally see his righteousness only, we are to TASTE the spirit\attributes of LIFE in us by becoming those attributes in enough strength from God {love} to remain in them or at least know enough about them that they are contrary.

IF we continue to eat only of those good emotions and thoughts that produce good kindly wise results that allow others to remain living even if they are contrary to us, we will come to know him and taste of life only.  Our own ways that are in us, Christ's ways then, will be what we receive.  This is a staple of scripture, our own ways being returned to us.  What we live by we will receive upon us at some point, even if we live with some ways of death in us we will still physically die.

The serpent in the tree of good and evil, man's natural worldly spirit, is the law of sin in our members, which is typified by the lusts of the flesh that are contrary to the lusts of the Spirit.

Gal 5:16  This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17  For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:18  But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24  And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Gal 5:26  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

I notice for us that wrath is one of the lusts of the flesh.  We know these kind of things, many of them, are an emotional "feeling" we experience, being "spiritual" as it were, having no physically represented source we can see with our physical eyes.  But the produce a physical and emotional result in one when they are experienced.  They "tempt" us to do or act out hurtful things upon other living things, not humans only.  Any hurtful thing we physically manifest upon someone or some living thing is an act of Satan, showing works of death.  If I hit someone in the nose for doing something, even though they may live, that response produced by acting upon anger or self righteousness of something like it, pride, would kill the person I am hitting if I continue to do it over and over again until they died.  Just because one does not die does not mean what we do that is hurtful to someone is not an act of death, of "the devil that has the power of death".  Wrath etc.  The wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God.  {james 1:20}

The lusts of the flesh, such and hunger and physical reproductive desires etc., are allowed to be acted upon and experienced in kept under the parameters of Jesus Christ as a man, of while we are in a flesh and blood body.  We may eat food, but are not to steal or cheat or rob to get that food, IF we believe that is what Jesus asks of us.  IF we do not believe of course, or do not believe that that is what Jesus is like etc., then we will not do the things of Him.  Doing some of them and not doing some of them is a natural minded Christian, "No blame, just my ideas about it".  When we do something evil to anyone, we betray the witness of Jesus Christ and so betray Christ in us.

If we are going to understand the bible and the two tress as being the kind of trees we see with our physical eyes in the world , we will remain blind mentally to the truth that can be found in scripture.  The hidden manna.  I leave it up to those who "may" have read this far to pray about this sincerely and keep on praying often until they get answers to their prayers on this matter.

God Bless.  donken

Idiom #67 - Foot

Foot is a euphemism for male genitals

Feet = regel: A feminine noun meaning a foot. It is the common word for a literal foot, human or animal. It is used figuratively, but has acquired many other uses. ... The phrase 'me raglehem' refers to urine, water of their privates (2Ki 18:27).

I'm just asking, usually I learn from your idioms, and since you say the NT was written in Hebrew, when Jesus washed Peter's "feet", was it "feet" or something else? Or would the idiom not be the case?  :dontknow: :HeartThrob:

I think Jesus wasn't into gay activities
Not all feet are genitals, just as not all sheep are not Jesus.

In case of the foot washing I think of sandals. Sandals represent the inheritance covenant because piece of land were marked off with old sandals. You not gonna like it but it was marriage related just as a large part of the Last Supper.

That is some funny stuff. I'm just wondering where all the Hebrew manuscripts are. I figure Greek was used to spread the word to the nations mostly who didn't know Hebrew, and I've read even the Jews weren't speaking Hebrew during the time of Christ but were speaking Aramaic.

...interesting.......thinking of the woman that anointed Jesus feet..wiped them with her hair.  the woman's glory being her hair...

The Septuagint was finished around 70BC as I recall(no source material on hand right now). It was likely translated from Hebrew texts, imo. Common people may have spoken Greek, Aramaic,Syriac...and Jerusalem was certainly multi linguistic, but it is quite likely the scribes, lawyers, pharisees, Saducees. Essenes(dead sea scrolls) spoke Hebrew in the temples and Paul and Jesus were certainly fluent in, and thought in,the Hebrew mindset and language, imo. This means no matter what language translations are regarded as, they must communicate the Hebrew mindset(prophetic voice of course, as in living and active) or they do not really "translate"- because we are seeking the thoughts of God, not the words of men, and the earliest sources are the thoughts in the minds of the apsotles and the prophets- however we can best get at them. :2c:

Also, sometimes feet are just feet, in any language...... the lowest part of the body, the humblest souls/soles touching the earth, getting dirty continually, and thank God Jesus washes us continually so that we, His (beautified by grace and love) feet can bringbgood news down from the mountain tops :)
The Logos is complete, but it is not completely understood. http://www.hell-is-a-myth.webs.com/

I've read information about Aramaic primacy too. All I know is I don't read Hebrew or Greek. So I'm just glad we have an English translation. I know something is always lost in translation, but I only read English.

I agree to some extent with the attempts at understanding this idiom. I think misunderstanding leads to all sorts of misinterpretation, such as (whether jokingly or not) Micah brought out. The idiom, as I have come to understand it, only refers to the male or female genitalia when the feet are in conjunction with another word. Examples in the Tanach are:

Water of the feet (speaking of urine, as one urinates between their feet)
Hair of the feet (speaking of pubic hair that grows between the feet)

So I think it is safe to say that when Yeshua washed the disciples feet, it was truly their feet.

On another note, another foot idiom people often misunderstand is when Ruth uncovers the feet of Boaz. This is not referring to uncovering his private parts and having sexual relations with him. In the eastern culture, the foot is also likened to ownership. An example of this is where Abraham is told that everywhere his foot treads on the land, that land will be his. So for Ruth to uncover his feet, and lie just below them, is her way of telling Boaz that she is placing herself in a position to be his, if he would accept, that he would be her Ba'al, or owner, otherwise known today as her husband.

Tom

Don't tell that to any feminist activists, bro, or you might catch some heat for it.
