What is so different about Ethiopian Christianity?

I know this doesn't have much to do with the theme of the website, but can anyone help me out here?

My brother(an atheist) keeps telling me that the Ethiopians "practice the purest form of Christianity", however I can't find anything about online. Can someone enlighten me here?

I'm no expert, but I do know that Christianity developed there in near-isolation from the rest of Christendom, and that their belief system is largely centered around their relic, the Ark of the Covenant, which they claim to have in a small chapel in Axum.

The purest form of Christianity?

We could be talking about the religion or the practice of following Christ.

The religion needs a tradition, books, a beginning..................

The practice just needs a faith in the spiritual king of heaven, who is there for the believer.

Somebody led those believers into a tradition.......................
I tend to drop tradition, and follow the purest spirit.  So are they following a tradition or the Spirit?

Thanks for responding guys, also, good questions! I keep asking my brother to show me some links or video as to what he's talking about...and says that he can't show me.  :doh:

No offense to my brother, as much as I love him...but I don't trust atheists enough to tell me about what I believe. I'm always studying the Bible, the history of Christianity, the greek/hebrew/, the manuscripts, etc, everyday. Trust me, I would know the truth of the Lord, compared to the wonky version of "Christianity" being taught in churches, better than my brother.

I Cor. 2:14  The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

I think it could be very possible for someone - atheists included - to say x,y,z is the best/purest/right form of Christianity.  That could be any sect of Catholicism, Greek Orthodox, whatever SEEMS to THEM to be the "right one".  I'm with you - I'd investigate it, but keep reading the scriptures for myself and seeking the Lord for guidance and understanding.  Anyone - including this one - can have an opinion.  :)

Hm...I wonder if this is the only difference? He still won't show me these differences, in fact, if there was such a massive difference...wouldn't other atheists appeal to it? In other words, shouldn't they use the Ethiopian version to prove everyone else is following the wrong version of Christianity?  :Chinscratch:

I don't know how much of a help I can be, but I would say that the purest form of Christianity was given to us already:

James 1
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Ain't nothing more pure than that.
