:Chinscratch: hmmm, that's really all I wanted to say.. Is our love for Him a burnt offering? ..and is it connected to 'gehenna' we've been discussing? In a purifying way that is. I'm pondering this today and wondering what you all might think.. I think i'll do a biblegateway search on burnt offering a little later..

Earlier today I was thinking about Paul and how he started and ended letters, so often mentioning "the grace of the Lord.."
...isn't that something?! ..that's to us also.. as believers.
I'm thinking He is the fire! (and man built myths around it..?)
I would say "YES" ..... in that He has put to death the first born in us (burnt the flesh, the first Adam/the first nature) .... the result is smoke rising up .....
and just as the smoke of incense rises to fill the nostrils of the Father so do our prayers/our Spirit rise to Him in thankfulness that He has put to death the flesh ..... for flesh and blood cannot enter into the kingdom of God

and also puts me in mind of Rev 8:3 - "Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne."

So - as we know - the burnt offering is Jesus...

I think it could have a number of layered meanings. I think it represents Christ on the cross putting the flesh to death in a literal way, which itself represents Christ as high priest putting our old man to death in a spiritual way.
My view of Gehenna fire as the destructiveness of sin would correlate to the Prodigal Son whose sin actually caused the feeling of remorse and repentance in him thus sacrificing him, essentially burning him up.

Exactly why we are told to take up the cross daily.
Also why Paul says it is no longer I who lives.
Plus he appreciates the work to be Christ's work which covers a multitude of sins.
I.M.O our love for Him increases as He teaches us what He did and why.
Not that we loved Him, but that He loved us.
to me this continual burnt offering at the door..speaks of Jesus.....he said 'I am the door' he was walking with them and opening the
scriptures[word of God] unto them...and their hearts were burning within them. He that lights the candle of every man..has eyes that
are like torches......that lights our darkness of understanding..and gives light unto the 'word of God' unto us.setting our hearts afire
