I'm talking to a pentecostal pastor, and he's helping me alot, but he's able to quote scriptures that I couldn't do! Does this mean I'm not saved and that UR is wrong?
:cloud9: NO, it just means he's memorized the scriptures and you haven't. Blessings...
QuoteNO, it just means he's memorized the scriptures and you haven't.
That's the extent of it!!
Mormons memorize scripture.
Baptists memorize scripture.
Unitarian Universalists memorize scripture.
Christian Universalists memorize scripture.
Jehovah Witnesses memorize scripture.
Satanists memorize scripture.
Memorization and meaning are two different animals.

Why would it even mean that?
I always heard that Satan was the best at memorizing scripture :laughing7:
It's not about what's written on pages of black and white
but it's what's written "in you" that gives you sight.

The answer is: green beans.
:icon_flower:
doesn't make sense, does it? :laughing7:
neither does thinking just because someone is quoting scripture and you can't means UR is not real and you are not saved.
peace to ya..

Hummm....
Dunno if I agree with that.
We hadn't a disagreement for a whole week so time to fix that :wink1:
From experience: If you know nothing about the Bible and look at it with open (little analytical) mind UR is clear.
(Or at worst things perhaps edge a bit to destruction not ET)
It just 100% the same as sports, politics, racial issues, etc, etc
If you want to bash 'the others' you will always find a stick to do so.
If you look at things like a robot you will see strength and weaknesses in every group.
That said some religious views are more equal than others

salvation doesn't depend on beeing able to quote the bible, I knew the bible far better than my father when I didn't believe in the bible yet.
knowing the bible well and making a doctrine doesn't make a doctrine necessarily true, Jehova Witnesses also know the bible very well, i guess better than the average catholic do eg.
There a people who translated the bible and believed in universalism, so don't worry
I know this Baptist preacher who can quote you any scripture in the Bible without even picking it up but as far as understanding them, well, thats a different story.

Having trouble making any sense of your disagreement. My point on this issue has always been . . . the Jews had the most respected and knowledgable theologians when pertaining to Scripture and even "they" could/can not agree with each other as to what it actually means . .nor did they have a clue of who Jesus actually was . . .they can quote you all about the coming of a Messiah . . but they can't identify that Jesus was "that" Messiah. Which is a pretty good indicator that just knowing the words the Bible says doesn't guarantee you see what it's actually saying.
Scripture plays a large, helpful role, but I really don't think God depends soley on Scripture to reveal the nature of Christ to all men. Romans 1:20 refers to God's language as not what is in print, but what is living all around us. Kind of hard to have a relationship and gain righteousness with a book . . .no?

The other possibility is that the Bible does guarantee it
but that people read what they want to read.

Not sure about that. Perhaps you are right.
Perhaps failing to read it with an open mind blocks that relationship.
