I've been mulling over this thought for a while now. It seems really profound. Perhaps we should think of the cross as a symbol - not just as an example. I mean, perhaps the true nature of God is to take the beatings of men, the assaults of men, and not retaliate except when only through force we realize something. Jesus said, on the cross, forgive them for they don't know what they are doing. We are all so insane. I've tried to think mankind is all evil, and saw so much good. I've tried to think we're all good, and saw so much evil. Perhaps it's better to say we're all insane. Instead of loving God and each other to bits we spend so much time without real meaning in it. We don't misunderstand God because He is above us, or rather we think in this great above us to be evil ... the issue is God is simply too good to understand for us who we have become so insane. There is good in all of us, and a real lot of good in some of us, but still people are deranged. Mankind could walk into paradise if it chose Christ in earnesty, but instead we're heading towards world war 3. And God? He will take a beating again. And only a few will notice. We always sacrifice God. Abel knew no other way either. But God accepted it ... and turned it into something good. That's the key to understanding God's power ... He accepts everything we throw before his feet, and where He can He makes it good in the end. We need to understand what Jesus gives us. Death and punishment are secured for us. Now it's time to wake up, yourself first and then others. We need to stick with each other and minister God to our wounds. The living God will be there for us.
Good mulling thoughts
Its difficult to know sometimes whether God is pleased with us, how good is acceptable etc what does he expect etc. When I read the bible and the millions of commands I sometimes think God is too demanding asking us to do all these things, he did die for us and that is something he did for us, but why couldn't he make the christian walk a bit easier.

I true, I cannot imagine life without the lord, I don't know how unbelivers can do it.

If you are in love you can't comprehend being without that person.
But if you never met that person you can live happily without that person.

Alot of good thought there. But, in all honesty wasn't the deck stacked against us? Lets take an honest look at this thing we call life. We are born into slavery. We are born to selfishness and satisfying the desires of our flesh. Have you noticed many of the things that are indeed enjoyable are wrong or unhealthy? I love pizza, cake, donuts, fries with mayo (yep I sure do :) )etc and so on. I used to smoke cigarettes and enjoyed every one of em. I used to drink and drug...enjoyed it for a season until my life became unmanageable. What's good for ya? Exercise (yuck), brussel sprouts (double yuck), balance, rest (who has time for rest?) etc and so on.
It's like God set this planet up so that the spiritual is the exact opposite of the flesh. Why can't eating a creme horn while smoking a cigarette be a spiritual act? We are to treat our bodies like a temple. Is it any wonder most fail, give up or never try at all?
To get to the point in your life where you enjoy spiritual things (prayer, study, balance, love, patience, kindness etc) it takes a working of the Holy Spirit and a lifetime effort. Even then it's possible to slip back for a season to those things that once bound us. Lets not even get into the whole doubt issues, multiple faiths, different views within each faith etc. Even if you set out on the spiritual journey will you pick the right religion?
It's why I have almost always had the view that life is merely spiritual school. It was set up to teach us hard lessons. It was set up where most would fail out. It was set up to bring us to futility and reach out for God. I believe this wholeheartedly in my spirit.
