Nancy

Hi there all,
Hope you are all ok!

I just wanted to tell you that i have stopped eating meat for a week (still eat fish) so far. I may not stick to it mind you but trying.  The way i look at it is, if i couldn't kill the animal myself, then i shouldn't eat it, just because someone else has killed it for me.  I am very squeamish about things like that.
But what got me thinking was what St. Paul said about the one weak in faith only eats vegetables, if i am correct.
What did he mean by this? Are vegetarians weaklings because they cannot bear to kill something?
I feel the trouble with today and in St. Pauls' day is that animals led a pretty normalish life before they were slaughtered, unlike today where they live in terrible conditions and stuffed with drugs and the like and are mass produced.
But i still cannot divorce myself from the thought that to eat meat, you have to kill.
Don't get me wrong, i don't judge people who eat meat and i don't consider myself superior, i just feel that it is a cruel fact of life that maybe we have to kill certain animals to survive (in certain cultures, like eskimos for instance).

Godbless
Nancy

Nancy,  I think you have every right to be a vegetarian, I don't think you have to justify it to anyone or  (don't get me wrong) use the bible to justify it.  no one has to like whether your are or aren't one in order for it to be ok for you to be one.

I don't care who likes the fact that I eat meat I have the right to do so godly or otherwise.

:cloud9: Hi Nancy....you're probably better off with all the growth hormones they've been putting into our food chain (which cause cancers to multiply).

But reference why he said they were weak in the faith; it had to do with the fact that they were going into Gentile environments where the meat was not killed properly (kosher) AND it had been sacrificed to idols. They were now teaching that God would give them grace over this if they prayed over their food and blessed it in His name, a revolutionary concept to Jews used to observing the dietary laws. So then, one weak in the (new covenant) faith, would not eat ANY meat set before them with thanksgiving, instead eating only vegetables to try to "play it safe", ie. they were still conscious of Jewish dietary laws.
Blessings....

I'm with you, Nancy!  :icon_flower:

All of creation groans...
There is so much suffering and so many atrocities behind the scenes that we do not see.
All we see are the little neat packages sitting in our grocery store.
Little do we know what we are actually supporting.

There will be no "eating of flesh" in paradise...
so why not start that now?
Ease suffering where you can.

If God has put it in your heart, then that is a wonderful thing!  :HeartThrob:

God Bless You.

Hi Nancy,

I quite agree with Sparrow - there is so much suffering in Creation.  And it bothers me to think about animals being cooped up and have short, dreadful lives just to be killed for our food.  Yet I do still eat meat.  If I had to kill my own meat, I'd probably stop eating it unless I was literally starving.   I think many people have become non-meat eaters for these very reasons.  Each person must decide for him/herself what he/she can tolerate personally.

Peace -
Anne

I had pork chops for dinner last night - as a dinner guest. Normally I only eat fish. And yes, I have killed them to eat them. Not anymore though. Too much work. I'm guessing that fish are far less mistreated than the rest of the meat chain.
