Hi there everyone,
I have put down a book that i had started to read as it seemed very humanistic. It is one of Anthony Robbins' books 'Awaken the Giant Within'.
It seemed very complicated but the thing that got to me was this view that YOU can do it, if YOU want to and that there isn't any excuse to feel depressed or down in life! That you can aim towards pleasure every minute of the day and get rid of pain!
Well maybe i'm not positive enough but i don't agree. Pain is a part of life for how do you know your happy if you've never been sad, rich if you've never been poor, etc.
The worse thing about this doctrine to me is that it puts pressure on you to BE rich, happy, smart, successful, etc. Does anyone know what i mean by this? If you're life isn't perfect, then there is something your'e not doing right.  A bit like christianity i suppose where they say if your'e life isn't right, then you aren't praying right or reading your bible enough!
What does anyone think?

Although I haven't read any of Tony's books, I have read other get rich and self help books that basically espouse the same things.

I thought the same thing that you thought; this guy is promoting that you should always feel good and never have a bad day in your life. What a crock!!!! Tony has no control over thousands of things that happen in his life. Can he control the weather, other people, accidents, road conditions etc.?

He wants to live without God and it's only the mercy and grace of God that keeps Tony from depression, alcoholism, and other human conditions. I don't believe he's happy go lucky 24/7 anyway. Does he yell at his wife, get angry about things he has no control over or injustices of the world?  I quit reading books that only try to make me feel guilty because I don't measure up. Who does?

I have a number of years ago read some books that fall into this catagory, how to do it books or self help books as some call them, just about all of these books  use feelings of guilt or feelings of lack in our lives, these how you ought to do it books  that tell you what you should do according to the authur I suppose can be said to be "doctrines of men" weather the book is  secularly oriented or religiously oriented.

One of these books was about the evils of this world all being an imagination of our mind, the writer made claims that there is no evil in the world it is all imagined, the author was a follower of the doctrines of Mary Baker Eddy the founder of the "church of Christ scientist"

Even Jesus Christ himself  taught  that there was evil in the world, sufficient for the day is the evil thereof etc. and evil spirits in high places that we wrestle against, we wrestle not against flesh and blood, so it isn't the writers of these books we wrestle against but the doctrines of demons and men.

I agree with what Shibboleth has said here
than any message that teaches that we can feel good everyday and never have a bad day, is such a crock that it holds no water.

If in this life only we have hope in Christ we are of all men most miserable.

Amen, Firewalker. Talk about being deceived!! I can't remember when I had a day that I felt really good all day. Somedays I feel better than other days.
