Christian Cliches

Came across this article today, and I agree with most of it. A lot of those cliches are unscriptural and just inappropriate today. There are always evangelists from a nearby church at my university handing out brochures on "how to be saved" and they usually say #2 in bold print on the front cover.

Ten more from the same guy. I think these 10 bug me more than the other 10 that I posted. Number 3 really bugs me, and I hear it a lot when someone dies. I don't think it is very comforting either. I think the lesson here should be that we should turn to scripture to teach, correct, and comfort rather than these overused phrases that aren't even true.

Number ten in the second list was spot on. I do wish he was more gentle in his approach though. We are all just doing what we think is "good".

I went thru all the links at the bottom - More Cliches, Even More Cliches, etc, and then How to Avoid Cliches.  At least, titles like that - it was quite a list - but what is "emergent Christianity"?  Have I been left in the theoillogical dust?  :dunno2:

Believe it or not, that blogger appears to be open to UR. He doesn't outwardly say he believes in it and seems to be undecided on what he believes, but he made a couple posts where he presented a brief, factual look at both sides of the issue but says he will leave it up to us to decide what to believe. I would bet he believes in it but isn't quite comfortable preaching it yet.
