Ive never understood why Christians always say that...particularly to people who never suggested "cutting out" any scripture in the first place.
Everyone wants to think that THEYRE view is the one that is taking on the full specimen of scripture and examining every part with equal weight...but thats a load of crap. Everyone comes to scripture with preconcieved notions(some more set in stone than others) that will ultimately define how you interpet it. And how you see one passage/verse may drastically affect how you see another passage/verse especially if they seem to have interconnecting themes. Thats how we make sense of information.

An easy example is when I came to believe that Jesus was really the savior of ALL men, it caused me to see the Hell texts drasticlly different. Because Jesus cant be the savior of all men (in the sense that he actually saves them) and yet have most people be lost to a never ending torture pit. You have to interpret their meanings so that they fit...and the popular way in this case is obviously by saying that Jesus is only the POTENTIAL savior of the world, but he doesnt actually save it.

its rather impossible to read the bible at face value and take every bit of it literally and arrive at a coherent life perception/theology, because things are obviously going to contradict eachother.

I dont know what the point of this post is, just wanted to rant about that for 5 seconds and hear what you guys think lol

It reminds me I like isogesis, a word not in my unabridged dictionary.  (This is not, eisegesis which is "an improper method of exposition by which the expounder introduces his own ideas into the interpretation of a text:  opposed to exposition." -- Webster's 2nd ed.)  Isogesis is taking as true a statement that may only be a fragment, a couple of words in the midst or at the end of a sentence.  Even though it is supposed to be a form of wrong exposition, I understand it to be true because God said it.  Many of these rules are useful, but not inviolable.

An example is:  "...all, to Him, are living." -- Jesus (Lk 20:38)  An amazing idea opening into experiencing of God.  Another is:  "...all and in all is Christ." (Co 3:11)  There is nothing else.  There are more such gems in the Word, but you understand what I'm pointing out.  I think people have been taught against certain ideas so find academic words and scholastic authorities to support their position.  For me a thing is either written or it is not.

They obviously haven't heard or don't know the meaning of a very apt and accurate expression for what they themselves do called "The pot calls the kettle black"
