So the "ages" in the end of Revelation.

I've been reading up on this and want to know if I have the general gist of how it works when pertaining to the end of Revelation.

Both the lake of fire and the heavenly city are both described using the term "ages" which is approproate because it describes two temporal things. At the very end of time we are all reconciled to God, all "ages" come to an end because God is eternal and time with no longer have any relevance.

Is that about it? Or am I missing something?

hi! about the (highly misunderstood?) Book of Revelation ages, I believe the years of our Lord A.D. are the "latter age" beginning with the opening of the First Seal in the book of Revelation, when one "on a white horse goes out conquering and to conquer" (continuing to conquer) the Seals being the most prevalent elements of this "latter age" of mankind. (Cross-reference - Colossians 2:15 "He triumphed openly over rulers and principalities")

Concerning the end of the age, 2 Thessalonians 1:7,8 says when Jesus comes He comes with two things, comfort for those of His who are afflicted and with "His mighty angels in flaming fire dealing out retribution to" the disobedient.

Concerning the close of the age, Jesus said "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you will not see me again, until you say "blessed is HE who comes in the name of the LORD" (Matthew 23:37-39) I believe this to be that when Israel/Jerusalem comes to be "surrounded by armies" (Luke 21:20; Revelation 16:14-16) the armies of the world, this crises brings her to finally recognizing her Messiah. The end of Revelation chapter 12 also suggests this - "the dragon was enraged with the woman so went to wage war against the rest of her children" (the natural as opposed to the grafted) "who keep the commandments of God and" (by this time?) "hold to the testimony of Jesus." The "waging war" being that last great battle (Revelation 16:14,15,16 - "three unclean spirits go out to the kings of the earth to gather to Armageddon (behold I am coming as a thief blessed is the one waiting) and they gathered them together to the place called Har-megeddon."

This I believe results in the "flaming fire" of 2 Thessalonians 1:8; the end of the pause of Revelation 7:1 (after the "opening" of the Sixth Seal when a new destructive wind was "opened" (Revelation 6:12-17; 13:13) changing life forever on planet earth, there is a pause (7:1) "four angels hold the four corners of the world" (north, south, east, west) "that the" (new?) "wind not blow for a time" (paraphrased!)

The Seven Seals actually work as a seal to the whole Book of Revelation message! It obscures the message because each seal when it is opened is described fully - as a blend of what it is when it first begins or is opened, and what it is at the 'end' when it is full blown and fully matured. Therefore things which occur very late upon planet earth, are described here so early on in the narrative.

2 Thessalonians 1:9 says (about the flaming fire) "they" (the disobedient) "will pay the penalty of eternal" (the greek ='s "agelasting"/ "aionios" #166 of Strong's Concordance) "agelasting destruction away from the Presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power." It seems to me that the first resurrection when all dead and alive believers meet the Lord at His coming, after which His feet touch down upon Mt Olives (Zechariah 14:4) occurs simultaneously with the "flaming fire" coming 'down' so to speak, but which is thermo-nuclear fire unleashed at Armegeddon.

We know there will later be a second resurrection after the millennial kingdom/age. The first resurrection far surpasses the second of course, for those of the second resurrection will be still separated "away from the Presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power"(2 Thess 1:9). Still not yet redeemed and in His joy, etc. At the time of the second resurrection we know what is called "Judgment Day" begins when "all the books will be opened" and "not one thing will be left hidden that is hidden, but will be uncovered".Surely this will be a rather long 'day'. Indeed I think it's a whole age! For if the fist advent of Jesus fulfilled and was prophesied by the Hebrew Spring Holy Days, then surely His long second advent will be the fulfilling of and prophesied by the Hebrew Fall Holy Days - Day of Trumpets - 1O days later the Day of Atonement (1OOO years later the Day of 'Judgment'/surprise, atonement!) - 5 days later, the celebratory Day of Tabernacles (5OO years later God Himself will tabernacle with man) - being the end of ages, you spoke of.

[note: it's only after all have experienced having been resurrected and having witnessed and lived through the long day of the examination of all things (after all; this is the learning of good from evil / life from death, surely? a long day of summing up. Surely the full understanding of life from death will be deeply engrained and etched upon every heart and mind.) It's only after all this that the notorious words "those not believing will go to the second death" are heard. (But who by then is not going to "believe"?)

After all these things there will still be the earth, the river of life, etc.. And if there is space/matter, I think there is also time.. But since all have "put on immortality" I think it and other things will be different(?)

Actually, that happened shortly after Jesus proclaimed that . . .he rode in on a donkey, they waved palm branches and proclaimed "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord . . ."

I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend, I see you've written out a lot there, but it's all traditional teachings of men who've tried to superimpose a prophetic word of that day to a time and generation far removed from what was truly happening back then.  The seals you speak of . . .there was only one that was worthy to open them . .that was Christ . . .and he did just that the moment his ministry began, he was opening seals . . .they've not been suspended for 2000 years,  they've been completed shortly after they were released to John . . .but I don't think I'm gonna do a whole lot of convincing right here . . just give it some thought and search out where your sources come from, if they came from traditions of men, we need to lay them aside and that's where all of this comes from . . .commentaries and side notes of Bibles . . it's all based on traditions of men.
