Interesting thoughts Hannibal, though I have certainly nowhere else heard Elijah described as a failure. One of the first things Elisha is recorded as doing after Elijah is taken up, is to curse the mocking children, 42 of which were mauled by bears. It is interesting to me that this number crops up again so suddenly...but wouldn't this make Elisha a judgmental prophet too? I would be interested to hear your thoughts on that passage. Maybe a man cursing his prior 42 months, where he did not walk in love?

I always took Elijah as the forerunner of Elisha, as a foreshadowing of John the Baptist and Christ, and also of another fulfillment at the end of our age. Many of Elisha's miracles are very similar to those of Christ.
