Hi Everyone,

Might someone be able to point me to one or more threads where Luke 17:37 has been discussed?

"And they answered and said to Him, 'Where, Lord? So He said to them, 'Wherever the body is, there the eagles will be gathered together"

Thanks in advance!

Some say it translates.... "Where the carcass is, there the vultures will gather"

New International Version
"Where, Lord?" they asked. He replied, "Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather."

New Living Translation
"Where will this happen, Lord?" the disciples asked. Jesus replied, "Just as the gathering of vultures shows there is a carcass nearby, so these signs indicate that the end is near."

English Standard Version
And they said to him, "Where, Lord?" He said to them, "Where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather."

New American Standard Bible
And answering they said to Him, "Where, Lord?" And He said to them, "Where the body is, there also the vultures will be gathered."

Maybe this translation will make it clearer.

"And answering, they are saying to Him, "Where, Lord?" Yet He said to them, "Wherever the body is, there the vultures also will be assembled."" (Luke 17:37)

..previous verse "one will be taken, the other left" - taken where Lord? ...by the vultures.. "When you see the abomination which desecrates in the holy place" (Jerusalem? in the church body/churches? theories differ) "then let all Judea" (some think this includes those grafted into Israel) "flee." Or also "when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies"

"one will be taken the other left"

vultures - black clad? - I'm sorry but whenever I think of them/the verse, i see black burk-as.. it just may be me, i don't know.. but it's what I always see.. and then i think "the dove will be confederate with the vulture" - saying let's get rid of those dang pesky, utopia preventing, christians! and Israel!

God bless..

I think this means Judea and Rome. Judea is the carcass, ie it has no spiritual life in itself anymore because of rejecting Jesus. The vultures are Rome and their armies that came to destroy Jerusalem.

Really! Now it is a symbol of the USA.

Ex. 19:4) Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians , and how I bare you on EAGLES WINGS, and brought you unto myself.

(Deut. 29:2) talks about God bringing the children of Israel out of Egypt .
Isaiah 63:9) End of verse: "he bare them and carried them all the days of old."

Is Jesus speaking of himself when he is referring to the body?  The "eagles" is a plural word that I have never understood who it is referring to. I have thought it was referring to Christians. Don't know. :dontknow:

...Eagles..

whoa.. these came up when I googled eagles used by countries and empires:

Arabic world. Many Arabic states and organisations use eagles as symbols, e.g. the PLO, Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Yemen.
Czech Republic.
Hellenistic Egypt. The Ptolemaic rulers of Egypt used it as their seal.
First French Empire. Napoleon Bonaparte used the Roman Golden Eagle as the symbol of his new French empire.
Ghana.
Indonesia.
Mexico.
Moldova.
Nigeria.
The Philippines.
Poland.
Romania.
Rome. The Romans used it on the standards of their armies.
The late Byzantine Empire chose a two-headed golden eagle as its symbol.
Albania.
Russian Empire.
Charlemagne and Holy Roman Empire. After his crowning as the new Roman Emperor, Charlemagne adopted the ancient Roman eagle as his own symbol. The Holy Roman Empire born of his kingdom took the eagle, but the Habsburgs replaced the golden eagle by an imperial eagle. From this derives:
Austria.
Germany and Prussia.
Spain.
Serbia/Montenegro.
The Seljuk Turks and Ottoman Turks used a double-headed eagle as coats-of-arms.
USA.

and

The eagle as a symbol has a history much longer than that of heraldry itself. In Ancient Egypt, the falcon was the symbol of Horus, and in Roman polytheism of Jupiter. An eagle appears on the battle standard of Cyrus the Great in Persia, around 540 BC. The eagle as a "heraldic animal" of the Roman Republic was introduced in 102 BC by consul Gaius Marius.[citation needed]

According to Islamic tradition, the Black Standard of Muhammad was known as راية العُقاب rāyat al-`uqāb "banner of the eagle" (even though it did not depict an eagle and was solid black). In Christian symbolism the four living creatures of scripture (a man, an ox, a lion, and an eagle) have traditionally been associated with the Four Evangelists. The eagle is the symbol of Saint John the Evangelist.

In medieval and modern heraldry eagles are often said to indicate that the armiger (person bearing the arms) was courageous, a man of action and judicious.[citation needed]

Where an eagle's wings were spread ("displayed") it was said to indicate the bearer's role as a protector.[citation needed]

In the same way that a lion is considered the king of beasts, the eagle is regarded as the pre-eminent bird in heraldry.
..compliments of wikipedia

Eagles of course are in both the old and new testaments..
:Chinscratch: hmm, this is interesting, Strong's greek #105 "aeos - eagle (from its wind like flight) same as 109"(it says) - which is "breathe, unconsciously to respire, to blow.." hope I'm not straying..

reminds me of Rev 12:14 which I'm forever nagging about imo saying it may be a second migration.. the faith is given the two wings of an eagle to fly (sail?) to a new place.. I always have to add that (sail?) to a new place.. this flying (sailing?) occurs because the dragon persecutes (inquisitions) the faith - the previous verse..

..the first migration was the faith fled after the manchild (Son of man? surely!?) was "caught up to God and His throne" so I figure that occurred after 70a.d. and the razing of Jerusalem.. the mantle of the faith now worn by Christianity.. ("the woman" now being). Note how the dragon tried to devour the manchild - via Herod the Great? (surely..?) - the mantle again settles upon Israel at the end of the chapter, cross-ref last verse Mt 23 "you (Jerusalem/Israel) will not see me again until you say 'blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD'..."

what is often missed is Rev chapter 12 is one of four inserts.. two of them are total histories on their own (12 & 13) and the others are more or less parallel to, and, or fit into the Revelation narrative.

This is one of two uses of "eagle" in the new testament, both in Revelation, 12:14 & Rev 4:7 (one of the four beasts around God's throne)

The other uses are plural... "there will the eagles be gathered" Mt 24:28 & Lk 17:37

ISA interlinear says it exactly like this - "WHICH-?-where IF-EVER -MAY-BE-BEING THE corpse there THEY-SHALL-BE-BEING-TOGETHER-LED THE VULTURES" (aetoi) ...Mt 24:28

and, "He-saiD to-them WHICH-?-where THE BODY there AND THE VULTURES THEY-SHALL-BE-BEING-ON-TOGETHER-LED" ...Lk 17:37

I don't know why some is capitalized and some not.. :dontknow:

Other eagle use in prophecy - Jer 48:40; 49:16,22; Ez 17:3,7; Hos 8:1; Obad 4; Hab 1:8 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jer+48%3A40%3B+49%3A16%2C22%3B+Ez+17%3A3%2C7%3B+Hos+8%3A1%3B+Obad+4%3B+Hab+1%3A8&version=NIV for those inquiring (or fellow nerdy) minds..

Ez 1:10 and 10:14 are verses about the cherubum

nerdy signing off.. :icon_jokercolor: :Peace2:

Interesting how many versions have slight variations to terminology.
Holman version;
"  Where the corpse is, there also the vultures will be gathered."
Vultures are scavengers that hang around like a bad smell.
Many false prophets seems to be akin to the vultures. They hand around lies which basically kill the truth.

However. One good use of eagles is Isaiah 40;31 " But they who trust in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."

Fellow brother in Christ

...one will be taken..one left behind.  the new creation[bearing image of incorruptible..will mount up on eagle's wings] the old man of sin

[ image of corruption.].return unto the dust.

we have the Lord's great evening meal..birds that eat the flesh of kings,etc[vultures]...and the wedding supper...to distinct destiny's

....where the corpse/body is the eagles/vultures shall be gathered.

CHB

I thought of this. The Body could be referring to the Body of Christ which are those who understand the truth and the vultures could be those who persecute true believers. Just some thoughts.

Depends on wether it is body/eagles or corpse/vultures, and I have never really felt sure about this  :dontknow:

....just come to me...unless ye drink my blood and eat my flesh ye have no life in ye.  Eating and drinking Christ is what allows

us to 'faint not' but instead mount up on eagle's wings.[as often as ye eat and drink this in remembrance of me ye proclaim my death]

it is through His blood that we may go boldly into God"s presence.[wherever the corpse is/Christ's sacrifice of His life] there

the eagles shall be gathered.

I believe there is also a duel fulfillment too...the Lord's Great supper and the birds eating the flesh of kings, small and great men

etc[Babylon's feast..bloodlust..drunk on the blood of the saints/the spirit in operation in this world/men's teachings/doctrines]

..the verse reminds me of black burkas.. I mostly consider the verse to pertain to the pre return troubles, the perilous day.. "he that is in the field don't return to the house" "stay awake" aware. One will be taken another left.

:2c: :2c:

I think the dove, which becomes Rev 13:1-10 (world beast/body/gov), will compatriot with the vulture, bringing about global Rev 20:4b "beheaded for the witness of Jesus" [Rev 13:1-10 with its iron/bronze (roman/greek, western civilization's) roots. Daniel 2:32,33 & 7:7,19 - the iron and the bronze/brass of Nebuchadnezzar's dream statue of world empires (affecting Israel and / the faith)..

"When you see the abomination of desolation.." (also 'when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies" 70a.d. yes, but also in that day (Rev 16:14).. in 70a.d. the standard of Rome on the temple desolated/emptied it of God's presence.. state standard upon ppl? = 666?/Rev 13:16-18)

Daniel 12:11 "3.5 yrs plus 30 days after the (place of?) daily sacrifice is removed" from Israel? "the abomination of desolation will be set up" (last days version = 666?)

One will be taken the other left..

Here are thoughts that came to me regarding Luk 17:37 And answering, they are saying to Him, "Where, Lord?Yet He said to them, "Wherever the body is, there the vultures also will be assembled."
So it just my 2 cents. :Peace2:

"And the slain OF THE LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground ['And they shall go forth, and look upon the carcasses of the men that have transgressed against Me for their worm shall not die, neither shall their fire be quenched; and they shall be an abhorring unto all flesh [Isa. 66:24].
"Therefore, behold, the days come, says the Lord, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The Valley of the son of Hinnom, but THE VALLEY OF SLAUGHTER" (Jer. 19:6).
"Therefore, behold, the days come, says the Lord, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the Valley of the son of Hinnom, but THE VALLEY OF SLAUGHTER: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there BE NO MORE PLACE. And the carcasses of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven,  and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall frighten them away" (Jer. 7:33).
"...and they shall be an abhorring to all flesh" (Isa. 66:24).
"...and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the Great God; That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men both free and bond, both small and great" (Rev. 19:17-18).

Hi micah,

There is one problem I see and that is the word "body" it is a singular word. It reads to me like it is only one body that is being talked about. I could be wrong on that though. The scriptures you presented was good and may be the answer, or part of the answer, I don't really know.

Yes that is true, my reasoning is I believe the "body" of Moses was all of Israel. Also my opinion is that Babylon spoke of in Revelation as a body of many. As well as Heb. 12:1 a "cloud" of witnesses, not clouds. As I said it's my 2 cents. Thanks

..are you saying "the body" is the (collective) body of the not yet redeemed or regenerated humanity?

this made me think of believers which outwardly say they are of the body of Jesus.. But which fruit says differently.. Some perhaps truly believing in the death and resurrection of Jesus, and they are saved, but are worldly and see not the Word properly or truthfully.. which says Jesus of "I never knew you.."..?

But Rev 20:4b.. the beheadings for the witness of Jesus, some of these may end up standing up for..?

Rev 16:14-16 - "gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.. Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments.. And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon."

..the separation of the goat body from the sheep body? "One taken, another left".

Seems to be two theories?

-- Either, some portion of the (professing!) body of Christ, is of a dead body/carcasse, and thus are of the goat body of humanity..? And taken to the gathering to Armageddon, or to the the Rev 20:4b persecution/trouble/tribulation.. Mt 24:29(the verse following the dead body verse)

-- Or, the body of Christ taken, gathered to Jesus at His return.. which is Mt 24:(29-)31

two men in a bed,two women at the hand mill...one taken[rise up on eagle's wings]..one left[birdfood] the soul that is sinning shall die

two baskets of figs......flesh and blood can not inherit the kingdom of heaven[spirit]   when I would do good/evil is present with me

who shall deliver me from this body of death[do not eat of the TOKOGAE for in the day ye eat of it ye shall die] thus all men..in

the corrupt image must be seperated  from their sin..for we have become one flesh with good/evil..like an adulterous wife.....

sin in our flesh is a spiritual adultery to our GOOD HUSBAND[only God is good]

Therefore we reckon our bodies as good as dead because of sin..and even deaden therefore your body members in regard to sin

that we may love and please our rightful/lawful Husband.

For God did not create man simply for nothing[vanity] but for His spirit to dwell in. the whole creation was subjected to vanity

in the hope that the whole creation may be set free from it's bondage[sold as slave to sin/corruption] into the Glorious freedom

of the Sons of God[incorruption]

Rev 19;17-18 flesh of all small and great=bound up all men in sin..all men appointed to die once=not hurt of the secound death

the secound death is the 'no more place' for sin/wickedness..the consummation and the end of sin-no more place for

death=sanctification..setting apart for the Lord..that He be ALL in All[His jealousy/love will consume All that is not of Him and

present us to Himself without spot or blemish/purification]

the battle of Har-meggedan= HAR[m] of gehinnom[secound death shall not harm/O'Death I shall be thy plague] fear not

those who after killing the body can do nothing further...Fear He who after killing the body hath power to cast into hell[2nd death]

see satan confined in abyss/prison/pit/hell.. til he goes forth unto his doom...which is the fiery consummation of God against

those who fight against[adversary to] the camp of the city He loves.

Now the twice dead are those of whom the offspring of viper spirits on religious leaders that cause to lead astray and seek to

proseyltize men..traversing land and sea..and when they are done with them make them two-fold the child of hell/death...these be the

ones who say 'Lord,Lord..did we not....." they have been misled by satan/offspring of viper spirits and have not attained the

first resurrection while on earth...and when they boast of the works they erronously believe they have done in service unto Him...

such hay stubble they have built with shall be consumed with His word of fire and wrath and jealousy/yet,they shall be saved as through

that fire...though their claims of works done in His supposed service be shown as not of Him. Rebuke/purification/sanctification

Satan/adversary/sin loses it's position...death loses it's position in the consummation..that God may be ALL in ALL.

just some contemplations of God's glorious plan of salvation/redemption of mankind.
