Jesus' compassion for the multitude

Matthew 9:36 says, "...when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them"

..why?

"because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd".

It doesn't say He was moved with compassion because they were going to burn in an eternal hell for ever and ever.. or perish..

Though Young's Literal Version says it like this - because "they were faint and cast aside, as sheep not having a shepherd".

The word translated "scattered" and "cast aside" is "rhipto" (#4496) - to fling.. disperse
(which hit me as 'out of orbit')

It just seems to me, if God were going to lose two thirds of all mankind or more, the compassion and words of the Lord would've been a bit more urgent concerning the multitudes.

I was also thinking about how Esau was compared to the Jews and Jacob to the Gentiles, and how there was animosity at first, but they were reconciled at the end. My church never covered that part of the story. Many are called. Few chosen. But with reconciliation in the end.

Think about it- Jesus only spoke of aionian kolassis and aionian pyr to the religious leaders. He never preached hell to the multitudes.

I just made a small note yesterday and it would seem to fit as a reply...
Mat 4:17  From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. [ If you don't there will be hell to pay]

It just seems to me unless Jesus was teaching/instructing His disciples the "word hell" never came up. Jesus IS compassion.  :2c:
