Psalm 149

I have always wondered about the later part of this Psalm namely Psalm 149:6-9

6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,
         And a two-edged sword in their hand,
7 To execute vengeance on the nations,
         And punishments on the peoples;
8 To bind their kings with chains,
         And their nobles with fetters of iron;
9 To execute on them the written judgment—
         This honor have all His saints.
         
         Praise the LORD!

Any thoughts?

   Hi Werner    can see those words also in rev 19 and sort of double witness   in the old and new testaments



And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him [was] called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he does judge and make war. 


Rev 19:12   His eyes [were] as a flame of fire, and on his head [were] many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 


Rev 19:13   And he [was] clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 

Rev 19:14   And the armies [which were] in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 


Rev 19:15   And out of his mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 

Rev 19:16   And he hath on [his] vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. 


  the Lord's   SPIRIT is with them / holy ones / saint and  the Lord is leading them

I can definitely see the similarities. The language seems quite strong "rod of iron", "fierceness and wrath". Could it be corrective punishment?

  I can see that it is  corrective punishment   Werner ,
  it is in the earth   and has been and will be  for Gods Word / Word of God is   being  fulfilled  every little bit of it .

First off, this line should bring the whole thing into context for ya,

To execute on them the written judgment

This part of the psalm is talking about the judgment of the law. This is a God dealing with the Jew thing, not a God dealing with the world or us or the church thing.

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth

this is the testimony of the saints.... giving us the timeline of Paul, Matthew and Peter and John etc.

And a two-edged sword in their hand,
7 To execute vengeance on the nations,
         And punishments on the peoples;
8 To bind their kings with chains,
         And their nobles with fetters of iron

And just as God promised in Dueteronomy, "Vengeance is mine, and retribution,  I will render vengeance on My adversaries,
         And I will repay those who hate Me.
      42'I will make My arrows drunk with blood,
         And My sword will devour flesh,
         With the blood of the slain and the captives,
         From the long-haired leaders of the enemy.'
      43"Rejoice, O nations, with His people;
         For He will avenge the blood of His servants,
         And will render vengeance on His adversaries,
         And will atone for His land and His people."

This is just continuing the established understanding that God would bring the Jew from out under the law and free them from their oppressors, the religous Jew.
