We cannot understand Gods ways?

What I mean to say, is that it tends to be a conversation stopper.  It is automatically assumed that the God of the Bible is an eternally damning god, and that any God who might actually be loving (love taken to its fullest extent, UR) is condemned as being an idol.  And everyone assumes they are worshiping the "God of the Bible" when really, everyone from the Mormons to the JW's to the Baptists to the Catholics say that "they" are the right ones, and everyone else's is an idol.

One thing that has come up today, in seeing some comments on a blog review of "Love Wins" (which...I haven't been able t

It is a bothersome statement for many reasons.

What they really mean is:
"If we aren't worshiping the God of the bible as I understand it we are worshiping an idol."

We all have our biases and we all assume our bias is the truth.  But a statement like that essentially says "I am right and you are wrong and if you don't agree with me then you are a heretic idol worshiper". 

Certainly URists believe they are worshiping the God of the bible, and they could just as easily say (and they do sometimes) that ETers are not worshiping the God of the bible.

The thing though, as I mull this over in my mind, is how to set it right?  There must be a more excellent way to deal with the issue of who someone is worshiping that is beyond man's understanding, and man's standards for himself and others.

Basically all these kinds of statements are meant to shut down the conversation and declare themself the victor - no further need to discuss because "I'm right".

These are really purely rhetorical "empty" statements that are not based in fact, only opinion, and don't prove anything.  Its really just a debating tactic to avoid the discussion.

"God's ways are higher than our ways"
"If we're not following the God of the bible, we're following the devil"
etc.

They are meant to assert a point when no point has really been made.  So next time you are discussing UR with your ET friend don't let these types of statements shut you down.  The reason you can know these are "empty" statements is because you can turn them around and prove exactly the same thing: nothing!

ie.
"ET is a lie from the pit of hell"
"God's ways are higher than our ways" (God loves His enemies)
etc.

Actually if they try telling you "UR is a lie from the pit of hell", you might ask them "which hell?" LOL :laughing7:
