Response to "Why would God want to save anybody?"

Hello all,

I was reading some comments in an article about Pat Robertson earlier this week which mainly involved God's sovereignty. One of the comments said something along the lines of "We shouldn't be asking ourselves why God doesn't save everybody, the real question is why he decides to save anyone at all?" How would you all respond if someone says something along those lines as a retort against UR?

I would say first of all that it's a false assumption to think that God won't save everybody, especially since scripture says the exact opposite, and somebody who is supposed to be an evangelist, like Pat Robertson, should know that. And the second part of my answer would also be something that somebody who is an evangelist should know, and that is because God is love. God created us to show his love not his hate, and God will save us from the evil he has also created because God is love.

"our Saviour, God, Who wills that all mankind be saved and come into a realization of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:3,4)

"we rely on the living God, Who is the Saviour of all mankind, especially of believers" (1 Timothy 4:10)

"God is love" (1 John 4:8,16)

:iagree:  Amen Tom! It is an upside down world when supposed evangelists wonder at God being able to muster up enough love to save anybody! I wonder what Mr. Robertson's version of good news is? That God, whilst holding His nose, deigned to allow certain intelligent folk - of which Mr. Robertson is fortunately a part - a place in a celestial playground called heaven, owing to them having the wisdom to choose to reveal Christ to themselves before their heart stopped beating?

Yes!  Because He LOVES us!!

Socrates taught Plato.  Plato taught Aristotle.  Aristotle tutored the son of Philip of Macedon.  This boy grew up to become Alexander the Great, largely by slaughtering a lot of people.  That's philosophy.

Jesus spoke the Truth.  He blessed the poor.  He healed the sick.  He even raised the dead.  He died on a cross for us, lived again, and came back long enough to tell us to love one another.  That's religion.

This kind of thing is the reason I am not shy about UR. The assumption about who God is in a statement like that is frightening in its ignorance and arrogance in the face of His glory.

When a guy who is supposed to be a man of God can say something like that it sets me free to just be honest, because with all the offense to the divine nature that is done in Jesus' name and the ill light shed on His character, I don't mind shaking things- up a bit because somebody has to be that heretic and it is US! LOLOL
