I would really like to have a theological lexion written by Jewish scholars.
Preferably scholars that only believe in the OT.
The Jews my have lost trac 2000 years ago but on average I think their OT understanding is way beyond that of western scholars.
 :2c:

That would be interesting. It'd be even more preferable if they came from the Middle-East. Many Jews from Western society, it seems, have had their original beliefs tainted. I do give them credit though, for at least not believing in Hell. Gehenna, for them, seems to = purification!  :thumbsup:
1 Timothy 4:9-10:

 9stedfast [is] the word, and of all acceptation worthy;

 10for for this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Saviour of all men -- especially of those believing.

Proverbs 10:12:

Hatred stirs up dissension,
    but LOVE covers over ALL wrongs.

:cloud9:  The soul does go somewhere at death, which is what I've been sharing for some time now. The spirit returns to the One who sent it. Blessings....

That is my perspective as well.
I have a somewhat unique view on this (to my knowledge).
My take is that "sheol" or "hades" in this particular application was a historical waiting place (for those who had physically expired). Awaiting then the consumation of the age, the life of this life is historically raised up with the firstfruits (mostly living) in question.

The person's spirit had (or has depending on your end times view) returned to God.
Some relevant scriptures:
Rom 7:1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth
Mat 12:41   The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas [is] here.
Mat 12:42   The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon [is] here.

Hbr 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hbr 11:2   For by it the elders obtained a good report

Hbr 11:39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise:
Hbr 11:40   God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
They were made perfect historically speaking through the firstfruits in questions having received a good report or biblically written testimony.
It would be the history of eschatology that is being raised up in the consumation of that history.

Hbr 11:35   Women received their dead raised to life again: and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection: {In the consumation of the history of eschatology}
