Hello everyone,

I am Sherman Nobles. You might have seen some of my posts on Jesus Creed or The Evangelical Universalist.  I was active on other forums until a year or so ago when I began affirming that I believed in UR, but the members there decided, as did my local fellowship, that UR is not an acceptable belief. It doesn't really matter how much one loves God, loves people, and even lives righteously; all that matter is that one accepts certain beliefs (Statement of Faith).  In essense this affirms that what one "believes" or professes to believe is more important than how one actually lives.  It's been a tough year and a half since I've come to "believe" that Jesus really is the savior of all humanity (in deed not just in title), tough mainly in the facing the rejection and ill will of people who once loved and respected me.

Well, anyhow, I look forward to sharing here and growing in our faith in Christ together.  I'm about 50, father of 4 (ages 21, 18, 11, 6), husband of 1, and brother to you all.  I have an MA in Missiology (cross-cultural communication of the Gospel) and each day realize more just how much I do not know!  I've loved God since I gave my life to Jesus when I was 6, water baptized at 9, preached my first sermon (Heaven/Hell - Where do you want to go? 45 minutes long) when I was 12, and baptized in the Spirit when I was 24.  So it's really funny that I now believe that ultimately Hell is completely plundered and Heaven is filled to overflowing!  And it's funny to me that it was actually studying what scripture says (or doesn't actually say) concerning Hell, punishment of sin, judgment, and Gehenna that freed me to accept in faith that Jesus fails to save none!

Thanks for all the warm greetings and for the link Pilgrim.  I look forward to sharing here and would appreciate your prayers for my family.  The negative reactions of extended family has caused significant issues between my wife and I.  So I sorely would appreciate your prayers for us.  I trust the Lord though.  A few months ago the Lord asked me if I was willing to suffer outside the camp with Him; to which I responded, yes.  And that's where I find myself now, outside the camp, outside the warmth and comfort of being a part of a local fellowship of believers.  To me it's really very sad that loving God and loving people is not enough, but one must also believe that Jesus fails to save some/most of humanity in order to be an accepted member, worthy of trust and respect.  Well anyhow, weekends are difficult for me because it highlights being outside the camp and the contention  within my family.  Thanks again for the welcome.

Hi Sherman, it does get better outside the camp but it can be tough on the rest of the family.I have been there and can say now my wife and kids understand.Even my mother inlaw yesterday came over and has stopped for the most part attending organized church.The final straw for her was, her favorite pastor resigned because "he wasn't business minded enough to tow the company line and keep the members,members"

Amen! I haven't felt so free since leaving the "church". I have been in your shoes as well and I know how hard it is. I feel for you and I hope it's a quick transition. Onlytruth is right, it does get better! Tentmaker  was a huge blessing for me during that time in my life, as I hope it will be for you. God bless you.

Sherman,

I feel for you man, we're right there.  I must say we've been dancing around the issue with people of not "going to Circe" I mean "church".  But I was talking with one friend about it (home fellowship, biblical ecclesia) and he was quite interested, and agreeing.  They still haven't gotten the UR talk either though, but now I think they may be much more receptive.  For a lot of people their first question is what church are you going to go to? after I share UR with them.
