Got me curious.  The greek/hebrew word in Job 9:2 is of course not "hell"...it is sheol...I found this;

"The meaning of Sheol moves between the ideas of the grave, the underworld and the state of death. In some passages Sheol has a punitive aspect (e.g. Ps. 49:13-14) and premature committal to Sheol is a form of judgment. The OT sees earthly life as the arena for the service of God; it is there that his word can be received, his sacrifices offered, his interventions experienced. Therefore in a real sense to be in Sheol is to be cut off from his hand (Ps. 88:3-5). However, God is both present in Sheol (Ps. 139:8) and able to deliver from it (Ps. 16:10)."
Neither should there be vulgar speech, foolish talk, or coarse jesting--all of which are out of character--but rather thanksgiving.  Eph. 5:4  **  Saved 1John 3.2, Eph. 2:8, John 1:12 - Being saved 2Cor. 4:16 2Peter 3:18 - Will be saved 1Peter 1:5 Romans 8:23

I'll let Paul explain his point, but I think this is probably connected, as well as connected to FIF's points...

If "hell" is really mistranslations that are really things like the grave, speaking of death (even spiritual death), etc. and NOT an actual lake of actual fire in the middle of the earth where the debbil dances around grabbing the next unfortunate sap, then it might be pretty hard for someone to truthfully claim they've dug there...or gone there and come back, etc.  They probably just don't understand the scriptures then...

God's blessing, James.

:iagree:  Again, my thought is, what's "hell"?  If scripture says "they" dug into it, then they dug into it.   :grave:...(but I bet they didn't dig it   , know what I mean?

But what is "it"?  It's not "hell", because that's not an accurately translated word...so it means other things...darkness, a sense/experience of separation (temporary, because God is there/able to be there also), the grave...So I do agree...probably many have been there, I've at least felt like I've been there before... but what is it?  God's blessing, and good morning.  James.

"thence my hand will take them"..[and "thence my hand will bring them down"]...as Mickiel says, "I'd like to get into that"...my question is, what does that mean, "my hand will take them"?  Will stop them, or go ahead and take them there (for awhile)?

Also, Paul, I'm in agreement with you here...however, maybe even that state (or the grave) is unseen until we're there.  I can't really know depression and despair unless I experience it...just a thought...it may be very well be that it's totally unseen  :dontknow:.  I do know they say the original meaning of the word "hell" (hel), meant to cover over, as in to hel pototoes back in the day.

Hi James,

Here is what I tend to see.

The primary defintion to Sheol is the "world of the dead".

I started burrowing there figuratively and God let me, but his hand was still there.   I for a time was spiritually dead, even though I was in church.

I have also started to gain ground in my spiritual thinking,  figuratively ascending to heaven and God has brought me back down.

Just recently, I have been brought down.  I believe my path in UR was an ascension, a broadening of what I see spiritually, but, it was selfish.  It doesn't mean what I learned wasn't true, it means that I was taking it all in to make myself feel better.

The reality is that I was brought back down and I am being sent into places I would rather stay out of to share the gospel.

Yikes!!!  I need prayer, terribly.  Scares the crap out of me.

Reminds me of that other Paul who apparently experienced spiritual things so great he couldn't even tell it...but so he wouldn't get too carried away with himself, God sent a "messenger of Satan to buffet" him...I guess to keep  him humble, grounded, so he didn't think too highly of himself, as well as be able to relate to others.  I know selfishness all too well.  It can be painful, but really a blessing, when God brings us to the place of being able to really empathize with others.  I'd say your journey's all been for a purpose, and now, though scared, you're right where God wants you to be.  So, guess Who'll take care of it (and you)? .

You bet.

Why should I feel discouraged
why should the shadows come
Why should my heart grow weary
and long for heaven and home
For Jesus is my portion
a constant Friend is He
His eye is on the sparrow
so I know He watches me
His eye is on the sparrow
so I know He watches me

So I sing because I'm happy
I sing because I'm free
For His eye is on the sparrow
and I know He watches me

from Wikipedia -- Civilla Martin, who wrote the lyrics, said this about her inspiration to write the scripture-based song;

Early in the spring of 1905, my husband and I were sojourning in Elmira, New York. We contracted a deep friendship for a couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle—true saints of God. Mrs. Doolittle had been bedridden for nigh twenty years. Her husband was an incurable cripple who had to propel himself to and from his business in a wheel chair. Despite their afflictions, they lived happy Christian lives, bringing inspiration and comfort to all who knew them. One day while we were visiting with the Doolittles, my husband commented on their bright hopefulness and asked them for the secret of it. Mrs. Doolittle's reply was simple: "His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me." The beauty of this simple expression of boundless faith gripped the hearts and fired the imagination of Dr. Martin and me. The hymn "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" was the outcome of that experience.

Walmart?  What chu talkin bout Willis?

I have heard its "like hell" to actually work for walmart so I certainly wont be putting in any applications there anytime soon

Walmart?
There aren't enough profane words in the tongues of men and of demons to tell you about Walmart.  Walmart is Mystery Babylon, the Beast that has arisen out of the pit, the corporate reality of the personification of Satan in TBN's movie "Megiddo."  Working for Walmart could make the biggest Universalist among us beg and plead God over the course of weeks and weeks of fasting for Him to create an eternal Hell to punish them.  Working for Walmart is like being buried in leeches without any clothes on, after you've already been dry shaved from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet, with no imaginable spot having been missed, only to have boiling oil poured down your throat right before you're stuck in a microwave full of eggs after you've been basted in salt.  So, basically having done to you what they do to animals in slaughter houses without ever dying is the reality of working for Walmart.  And with all of this, I can't describe to you the absolute horrors of working for Walmart for one solid year.

Jokes aside, when I first saw the title of this thread, I thought it was about relationships to be completely honest.  The way to drill into Hell is to start by trying to drill into Narnia and before you get there, turn left when you see the first Leprechaun.  But if you end up on the I Love Lucy show, then you didn't turn left at the first Leprechaun, you turned right at the second Leprechaun.  So, you'll have to back up until you're back at the first Leprechaun, and if you don't get into a fight with him 'cause of his assumption that you're after his camera equipment, uh...er....his gold, then turn left and proceed into Hell.  Keep going another couple of miles.  Turn right at the first Centaur.  If you end up with the Beverly Hillbillies, then you turned right at the second Centaur and need to back up until you're at the first Centaur and then turn right.  (Don't eat the stew you're offered at this point!) Keep going for maybe another five miles and it should start getting hotter and noisier with billions of screams, shrieks, moans, sounds of people vomitting, sounds of people paying taxes, sounds of people wailing because Conan O'Brien's television show isn't going to end, but is the only thing on television in Hell besides Mash and teletubbie reruns.  And if you hear the laughter of Elmo getting closer, then you're in the deepest part of Hell and can never escape!!

In otherwords they were getting into trouble

Something can be literal (yet be spiritual in its literalness). Like God He is Spirit and yet He literally exists. He sends a Spirit of Judgment and although the Spirit is unseen too the Spirit literally exists.

Does it say they were looking at something?

The things that are temporal are the seen things right? And the things that are eternal are the unseen things we actaully ARE to look at. BUT if they are looking through literal physical dirt its impossible to be that which is seen.

I know the hebrew words are not the same I figure you guys will just replace the words into the right spots and know what we are talking about  My workmanship here is not top quality

hi FinF

I do not have a problem with literal as in reality, where ever or whatever Hell truly is, it is "literal" in the sense that it exists in some form.   I just believe that the form it is, is spiritual because of scripture.   I do not believe that hell is just a figment of our imagination.

I believe the Original Post is probably  (but correct me if I am wrong) talking about those who may have went and physically drilled into our planet (for whatever reason, looking for oil perhaps) and believe they discovered the location of the Torture pit where Religion says much of Humanity is burning in torture forever.

I just believe that anyone who thinks that is what or where Hell is is spiritually blind and cannot see much past the physical written word of scripture.

I was in that Hell for a year.  In the Bible, "Hell" is simply mistranslations of Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, Tartarus.  In a book called "The Lost Books Of The Bible And The Forgotten Books Of Eden" which is a collection of ancient Jewish and Christian writings that aren't in the Bible, the word for "Hell" in there is actually "Walmart" in the original languages.  Check it out.  Hebrew, Greek, and Latin!! :dontknow:

I'm actually in agreement with you on it  and yes I believe the OP was really talking about physically drilling into such a place and I was only trying to move it in another direction   I figured to help out, I dont know if I did that but I was trying to get the physical dirt out of ones eye and spin it in a different direction and (ofcourse) sorta have a sense of humor about it all

What should we do? Just scream "your BLIND"!

No problem,  I was not thinking you thought literally, i was just building upon what you were saying.

LOL, well,  screaming isn't always that effective with everyone,  but I think at times a good scream isn't always a bad thing.   ;)
