I'm not sure if the kjv can be described as a toxic bible. The language can be a bit blunt, but concerning Hell, i think maybe its our interpretation f it that might find it offensive. Another mans hell is another mans heaven.
So Hell = the unseen place
So perhaps the kjv translaters used hell, for sheol, the grave and tartarus, because all of these are the unseen place.
Nobody has seen tartarus and maybe people might think it is a real place on earth, so maybe that's why the kjv people put hell in there to replace it. For them in those days hell = the unseen place.
So if they said "you are going to be judged in hell by God". They could mean you are going to be judged in the unseen place. A place that we cannot comprehend or see, e.g the lake of fire.
And since they buried people in the earth, one might say they have gone to hell, the unseen place. Only the wicked imagination of man thinks of hell as a torture dungeon, and perhaps throughout generations, the meaning of hell changed from being the unseen place, to all of a sudden being the so called "seen place", by people who would claim to have gone to hell etc in fiery burnings and untold torture.
