What was the Pharisees belief? Endless torment?

I asked some of the ET'ers and christians about this, they told me that it not true, Jesus is talking about their's pride ego nature, the hypocrise thing, they follow God's laws, but without heart.

They told me that Jesus still support the punishment of hell because it is just.

Jesus isn't warning people to not follow the Pharisee doctrines....

Matthew 23:1 "Then Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, 2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of Moses; 3 therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them."

The Pharisees didn't believe in ET either, they believed that they would be seperated from God's promises, and held outside His presence therefore never being included into His good things.


The yeast is a reference going to the idea that if you put a little yeast into the flour it will eventually make it's way through the whole batch of dough... that was a comparision to sin, that if you sin a little that eventually your whole being becomes corrupted, In context this idea was connnected to the Pharisees disbelief... therefore watch out for the disbelief of the Pharisees for a little will corrupt the whole person.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe most Jews believed that Gehenna was temporal at least for all Jews, about the gentiles the opinions seem to have differed, though annihilation seems to have been a popular notion.

But as the Jews considered Gehenna to be temporal for themselves, they could hardly understood the threat of Gehenna as endless torment, and nowhere else than Jews are threatened with Gehenna in the bible.

Right on Molly...the Pharisees' "holy book" is also not the Torah, or Bible...but the Babylonian Talmud (not to be confused with the Jerusalem Talmud)...the Talmuds are the "holy books" of Judaism...

Molly, IMO, this is a story told to people still following the Law and moving into Grace after Jesus dies.  the whole telling of not knowing when He comes is a hidden riddle of when the Holy Spirit IN dwells humankind, and is now how God comes to his people (All People) , God comes to every person in God's time, When God is ready to come to that person, i.e. God wakes up His Seed in ALL mankind in His order.
