What is it precisely that troubles you about Hell?
« on: March 11, 2009, 10:51:50 PM »
(At the risk of committing a no no, I have re-posed this in what seems to be a more appropriate section)

First an introduction:

Hi Brian,

My particular training is in philosopohy and philosophical theology, so my approach is a more fundamental one.  I am very interested in theological systems and the philosophical assumptions behind them more than in the details, but I do enjoy any discussion that is honest and involves strengthening my faith and deepening my knowledge of God.

You have an excellent mind on these topics and I can tell that you're seeking the truth.  I'd love to dialogue with you about your questions!

Hi Brian,

I've been reading through your emails and I keep coming back to your struggle with the reality of Hell.  And so, I think this would be a good starting point for our dialogue.  Do you agree?

If you could boil it down to a sentence or two, what is it precisely that troubles you about Hell?

(Or maybe for some of you who are over the hump: If you could boil it down to a sentence or two, what is it precisely that troubled you about Hell originally?)

.

For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers. 1 Timothy 4:10

What troubled me about hell is that it is so damn repulsive and repugnant to my conscience and it casts God in the worst light possible.
Just because God says He will save all mankind
does not necessarily mean He won't.

The tone of the question sounds as if he could just as well be posing the following question...

What is it precisely that bothers you about shopping at Wal-mart?

Hello all,
i don't post much but sometimes i feel the urge to put a few thoughts into words and this is one of those times, i read this thread a few days ago and could not get the question out of my mind and it took time to formulate the thoughts floating around in my itty bitty mind into words on the screen, so here they are for they are worth.
After being enlightened to the truth of God reconciling ALL His creation, I now know what repulsed me of the theology of hell.
And that is: An all knowing, all loving, all powerful creator has NO WAY to get the results He wants, the only thing He can do is accept the small percentage that will do His will, and throw the rest in a trash dump and torture it forever.
I now believe in a Loving, Powerful creator that has a plan to get the end result that He desires. His plan is working the way He has purposed.

God in His words through scripture tells us:

           Isa 52:10 -
The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all  the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Isa 26:9 -
With my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness.
When is this going to happen?

Revelation 20:11-15
11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Re 20:14
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

When we are thrown into the lake of fire we will learn
Notice this is the second death

Notice that after Jesus has destroyed the last enemy He turns the reigns back to The Father

1Co 15:26
The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.
Some translations say that death is abolished, that means it is absolutely NO MORE
If the lake of fire is hell that means it is no more.
I believe that the lake of fire is where we all (all humanity) learns, and after we all learn then there is no more need for the lake of fire (hell)

I may be all wet on my thinking, any enlightenment welcomed

                                        Peace and Gods' love
                                              Henry

the claim that an allmighty God of justice who they claim to be love will torture most of mankind whether 'good' or bad for ever and ever and ever without end and without mercy just because this people didn't have the proper belief.

Did someone break this thread apart?  I thought I posted in it earlier.
Ours is not to make up anybody's mind, but to open hearts.

it just always seemed so unjust.

I want a God I can look up too, and respect  Iwanted a just

God,not some tyrant...why did he make me this way..then fault

and condemn me for it? I wanted Him to love me..I wanted to

please Him. out of fear...but I couldn't love  Him.And He said I

must. So I reckoned in mind that I was going to set my heart

to love Him...and I reckoned one way to do that was to get to

really know Him...so...I started asking him things about himself

his favourite things etc...what He hated..likes,dislikes..

I quit listening to what everybody else said about him

He started revealing himself...and IT WAS HIS PERFECT LOVE

THAT REMOVED ALL FEAR FROM ME. Someone that wouldn't

tolerate the loss of any man, woman and child..that insists

on their salvation..that loves and cares for their life...

NOW I REALLY HAD FOUND SOMETHING! THIS IS A GOD

I CAN LOVE AND RESPECT AND LOOK UP TO!

It all boils down to..people saying they know him and don't

people lying on his character[beleiving the serpents slander]

us not knowing him..and beleiving he is less merciful than we

are..is unjust, unkind and hates most of us.Beleiving lies

these lies and lack of knowledge concerning him..has stumbled

many and caused many to turn their back on Him

I don't know why He has concealed himself..like He has..

to the geneal masses  Psalms 104;29  when you hide your

face they are terrified; when you take away their breath they

die and return to the dust. When you send your spirit they are

created, and you renew the face of the earth .

Isaaih 54;7  for a breif moment I abandoned you, but with

deep compassion I will bring you back. In a surge of anger I hid

my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting  kindness

I will have compassion on you, says the Lord your redeemer
